Has anyone done a dyno before and after? I did this mod today, but I am curious if there is any loss of performance, due to the positive pressure effects of having the forward facing stock opening under the hood (IE ram air). Any thoughts?

I had stumbled upon a site that had an elbow with no hole. It was like 60 bucks. A real good duck tape job would do the same thing.

I still can't figure out why not have the hole on the elbow inside the tire well. Like I said, I tried it both ways.

As far as dyno runs go....this mod gets you next to nothing without a tune. I would expect that it would tune better than the stock set up since it has the ability to breath better (provided you leave the hole in the elbow).

Like I mentioned before I know a guy who ran SM with a bigger turbo last year at the SC and did very well with this configuration.

Here is the link
http://fastwrx.com/insnre.html

I think the whole idea is the cold air comes in through the front collector and goes right into the filter area instead of the large thing in the fender. See this pic below:

It's number 10. The part this site sells just bypasses that big thing. Air goes in, takes the corner and right into the air box. Seems cool.

Yeah, like I said I think just hacking the silencer off the elbow and leaving it open works better as mentioned multiple times in this thread already. (See post #26)

....and I am saying I disagree cause then you are defeting the cold air coming in from the front scoop.

What i did was take out the snorkus, and cut it in half, so the scoop and the intake are still connected to the top half of the snorkus. i love the sound so far, and there isnt really any difference power wise, just a nice sound

True cause the front scoop will fill that area with cooler air.....

...and a ton of cool air comes into the wheel well from the fog lamp cover on the 05's and a different opening on the 06...located to take air from the lower front central opening.

This is why CAI's work so well....lots of cool air in the wheel well to be had....

Try it both ways....covered for a month....and open for a month....easy enought to change. On mine, I just reached thru the fog lamp cover with my hand an pulled the cover off of the elbow...

I clean my air filter every 5k miles and it always looks good...

so there is no way water is going to get into the elbo if you just leave the gaping hole right? I live in a pretty wet area in the winter and dont' want to hydrolock my car :S I really want to do this mod however I am just worried about the water situation

I think it is pretty safe. The opening is fairly well protected and high up....definitely more so than a CAI and I've not read of anyone having a problem with water with this set up....

I've blasted some fairly deep puddles with it....however if you're driving in stuff 2 feet or more deep.....

I certianly wouldn't worry about water. The velocity through the filter, and the filter itself will cause any water that gets into the filter box to drop out there.

I've been hearing boost leak after 5500 rpm, totally unrelated to this mod. But I want to take it in to get fixed under warranty. Without thinking, I went ahead and did this mod anyway...do you think subaru will find this and not fix my boost leak because of it?
