you shouldent get water. just look at a CAI or even the SPT intake. it is much more open, and nobody has problems with water. if you saw off the bottom silencer, there will still be that big hole, so water can still "drain" if its taken from the snorkel.

I've blasted thru some serious rain storms with standing water with this configuration with no problem whatsoever. I think it is safe or I wouldn't do it myself.

alright guys, finally i took out the silencer! i was kinda of doubtful, cuz i didnt wanna mess up my car in any way... was pretty easy though i would post the pic of the so call "tumor" yall refer to it as , but i dont know how to post pics on here, i was looking for the thread but couldnt find it... oh well, at least its off and i gotta say, the bpv and spool are a little louder!....

one question though, how the hell does that big ass thing delete the sound of the turbo spool and bpv if its nowhere near either one of them???? and at first i also thought water was supposed to be held in there, but then i did notice the hole at the bottom, so whats the point of it??

i did put the snorkel back on and i left it open... unless im told otherwise, ill cover it up.... but in the mean time ill leave it open.

Your stock BPV vents pressurized air from the compressor side of the turbo back to the intake side of the compressor when you let off the gas...(as opposed to the atmosphere for a BOV)....and it makes a whoosh sound that you can hear the more open your intake side is to the atmosphere. Put a more free flowing filter like a K&N and it's louder still.

The silencer just dampens the sound. I think it is best to leave the intake snorkel on since you want cool air coming into the elbow thru the snorkel and thru the elbow opening in the wheel well.

yeah with the water, gravity wins and even if it by some sorta chance made it into the air box.. the filter is there to stop it and the water would just sit at the bottom of the box.. maybe check sometime after going through a bunch of water. open it up and see if its damp or wet under the filter? I have a no recalection of water ever getting near the box.. Your good to go haha!!

I just used duct tape and taped the hell out of the hole. Works fine!

The hole on the elbow? Why not leave it open to the wheel well for more air? I ran it both ways and like it open...

well i guess i'll put my 2cents in, i have a 2004 sti. i did this last night it was very easy but taking that dam snorkel out was the hardest thing about it. i was about to take the wheel out but i twisted the thing and there she came right out.
after all said and done i think it was not very impresive, i guess for free who care's, i wish it was just louder thow u can barley hear any thing.

same here, i just did it and i didnt notice any difference or more sound but i am stage 2 and my aps tbe might be drowning out the little extra sound. I already bought an aps intake but was just curious 2 see the difference and in my opinon was a waste of time(given i dont have a aftermarket drop in filter) but good to know and i didnt mind getting a little dirty
