Hey,

I made mine just the same way as you do but I filled the hole with fiberglass (and paid attention to keep the inside diameter).
It's a very good mod I think (and because I made it myself makes it feel even better ).

The turbo spool up time is better with it and the bov makes a better sound (just as said B4)

but mated with the APS turbo inlet it's crazy. Have to say that the turbo lag disappeared and the gauge just jumps to 1,3bar from 0 when I push the right pedal.

So, what is the purpose of doing this, just to hear more turbo spool up and BPV? I don't think you get any power gains.

if you did this would water be able to get in to the system any easier? and could you get dirty air, since they air would be comin right from the fender wall? thanks for the pics and stuff. i got the elbow today, the damn thing has crappy instructions. fastwrx.com quotes that you could get 1-2hp gain.

the air still goes through the filter. im guessing the filter will get dirtier faster if you leave it completly off. but it IS filtered.

Fiberglass. And then painted black to get the original look.

sawed off....leaves it open to the wheel well like a poor man's CAI. I had it covered for awhile like this:

...and then removed the cover (white)....and it felt fine with a little better sound. Then dropped in the K&N panel and much more BPV sound. On the '05, air is ducted thru the fog lamp cover slit straight to it! Plus I left the intake snorkle in place to direct air to it from that direction as well...

Just clean the K&N every 5k miles and you're good.

ok cool, well i just put my stock airbox back in after goin stage 2 on the ap V2, I had an APS 65mm cai but i was pulling timing lol.. I was just thinking, you know how you cut the snorkel silencer tank of, what if you were to just leave the bottom open like you said for a "poor mans intake" haha.. you think that would be better, than your getting air from two locations. from the front air dam and the fender. IMO i think this would be pretty good considering air from the front is kind of restricted by the hood crease and what-not. let me know what you think.. i might just throw it on there with the hole in it haha see how i like it.
