Today I decided to tackle this silencer delete thing and see if people were just imagining things. It didn't really take me long and came out easily (with F/R wheel off). Honestly I have no clue why some people say they don't notice a difference! My '04 sounds so much better now. Not only do you hear the spool, whoosh, and bypass...my engine seems to be louder as well. This also helped my car open up and breathe - obviously - and throttle response has improved. This cheap little mod did alot for my car. I pick up the K&N tomorrow, and I'm sure it'll be even better!

Yea, I'm a little late on doing this as I just recently found this thread.

I did it on my 07 and it sounds great. Much louder than stock. Does anyone know if it makes it "hearable" outside the car??

Hmmmmm, i wonder if mine is already removed. I can def. hear my bpv when you let off the gas quickly in my car, or maybe the previous owner installed an aftermarket filter already? I have to pop the hood this weekend and check it out.

More air sounds good to me

if someone wants my k&n drop-in, i am probally going to be selling it since i wont be using the airbox. PM me

Did this on my 07 yesterday, it does sound different. I can hear the wastegate when not hammering, and the turbo sounds nice when you push it a bit.
One thing I would add to the op:
On my car, I couldn't get in via the rear of the front fender(where the clips are) to the lower nut. It was much easier to pop out the three plastic holders of the skirt underneath the front lip and get at the second bolt. That's also where the silencer came out easiest.
Left the hole uncovered.
Thanks for the writeup, it definitely gave me a good starting point.

a 10-20 min process which took me about 3 hours!!! i got the car up, took the wheel off, took the clips out, took me 20 minutes to find the right size socket, the clips on the bottom of the lip took me about 2 and a half hours to take off and put back on, were these necessary to take out here are pics.

it was well worth it, the noise is a lot better.

i got them out pretty easy but putting them back in TOOK FOREVER. they're not really clips they're more like plastic screws that you push in, and the screw is bigger than the hole. idk
