Thanks alot for this "How To". I took off the whole thing and just left it off. I love the sound of my car now. You can really hear the turbo spool up and when i let go of the gas it makes that psssh sound.

I finally got around to doing mine the other day. sounds pretty cool now. the sound is kinda a cross between a sneeze and a cat hissing. I like it.

I pulled mine out third day of owning my STI.

I do have something to add though. I'm a "Pack Rat." If it might have the slightest use, I keep it. So I've been holding on to my Silencer jug... And I just figured out a use for it. It is now my loose change jar! I figure I'll keep filling it, and when it's full, I'll empty it, cash in the change and buy a mod for the STI.

so i get all ready to get rid of my silencer...

i get my jack out, but no lug wrench!! i was sooo pissed. so i say f'it and try it w/o taking the tire off.

i turn the wheel all the way to the right, and get to working on the clips. they come off easy with no tearing (05). but when i look inside...no silencer.

it has already been removed. i bought my car with 19K miles on it, from IL. the dude before me must have removed it.

i'm not sure how i feel about that. yes, i'm stoked i don't have to take it off. but it got me thinking about why it was removed.

was it just a simple as he removed it and didn't totally mod out the car, only to take the mods off prior to selling it? was the car in a wreck, and the silencer wasn't re-installed by the body shop? who knows?

i've been hearing the turbo spool up this whole time and the waste gate sound. i was hoping to hear more of it. oh well, i get i have to get the GT35R now.

if you have a CAI, it would have to be removed. alot of people do it anyways. shouldent be anything wrong with your car.

Just wanted to say thanks.

This is a little improvement. Not that I want it to be over the top... but it was worth the little weight savings as well. I was worried it would be really loud, but it was only a subtle increase.

Thanks again.

I just did this to my Sti.. and I must say, I don't hear anything different. Not that big of a deal because it really didn't take much time.. but not really worth it.

Switch your air filter to a K&N or other high hi-flow filter....you'll hear it a lot more. When I did it my wife noticed right away....she said, "did you install a BOV?"
