Does the console just pop off like the shifter trim does, or do you have to remove screws? Also, is it the plastic around the e-brake that needs to be removed, or the arm rest area?

I dono about the MYO6STi but on the TR you pop open the center console and pop out two screws, and you will also see two screws just behind the top of the shifter trim. That is all it takes on the TR but I have only been in two 06 STis and never looked at it.

The correct way to do it is to take your rear wheels off, remove your calipers, remove your rotors then there is a little wheel in the brake drum that you spin that adjusts the pads in and out.

No way. Whenever I take my car to Subaru for an oil change, they tighten it up for free while I wait. There's no way they would do all the work you described for free or be able to do it during the half hour it takes to change the oil/ tighten the e-brake.

snowcrazy that's only for Drum brakes! not Disc.. the way the first Reply said is how you do it. by the way another reason your E-brake is high couuld be worn brake pads or Rotors are to thin.. Get those checked out. which will also cause your master cylinder fluid to get low.

snowcrzy is correct. we have rear disc brakes as primary. however our park/emergency brake is drum inside the hat of the rear rotor. go ahead try to pull off that rotor without removing the plug and relaxing the shoes. a exercise in cursing.

Sorry to bump such an old thread, but does this adjustment just make the "full engagement" point lower down? Does it affect anything when it's all the way released?

I've noticed mine is getting higher and higher as time goes on...

Yes. It makes the hand brake engage sooner on the upward pull. I adjusted mine a few months ago because mine was loose from day one and it made such a difference.

^^it doesn't affect the point where the brake releases though, does it? As in, when the lever is all the way down, no matter how tight it is tightened it will be disengaged, correct?

If you over tighten it it will be engaged even when it is fully down. You can easily tell if you over tighten it though as you turn the screw. Just make sure there is some play when the handle is at it's lowest position befor eyou put the housing back together. You want to be able to have little resistance as you start to pull it up and then it should start to feel tight the higher it goes. Pretty self explanatary.

or you can just pop off the rear wheel, remove the little rubber boot on the rear disc, then take a flat bladed screwdriver and adjust it that way.
