Default How to Debadge

This takes usually about an hour or so, but patience and "doing it the right way" is the key.

Sorry if it's dirty, but here's a BEFORE pic

1. Use a blow dryer to make the adhesive behind the badge tacky. You can tell it's tacky when you're able to wiggle it around. (Note: you want to do one letter at a time)

2. After the adhesive gets nice and tacky, use some dental floss laying around and shimmy your way through the badge until it comes off.

3. You will notice some adhesive left over on the trunk so the easiest thing to do is to use some sort of hard rubber (erasers won't work b/c they crumble) "I used the handle on my clippers" and push hard on the adhesive. You basically want to roll it off so start on one side and end on the other. (Note: After flossing it the adhesive might have cooled down and hardened so reheat it. Also keep in mind that if it's not heated enough it'll be too hard to roll off, and if it's heated too much, instead of rolling it, you'll just smudge it) (also in this pic I forgot to take a picture while I was doing this step but that pasty stuff is the bug/tar remover. I'm just showing an example of rolling the adhesive off)

4. This stuff works great to get the real fine adhesive off. AKA "The sticky stuff"

5. Apply equal dabs onto each letter and let it sit for about 5 minutes.

6. Use some sort of abbrasive cloth (I used the one w/ the bug/tar net thing on it) to rub it off. Apply pressure too.

7. Last step is: you want to wax it at the end, so I just used some nice turtle wax and rubbed the **** on there. This is the AFTER pic.

Good write up. I used the hair dryer again after the emblem was removed to soften up the adhevise. After most of it was off, I used Goo-Gone to finish off the gunk.

Thanks And yeah, that works too. There's so many different methods you can use to debage a car. I'm sure your way works even better lol. I just used what I had laying around. I didn't feel like spending $ for something that I'm only going to use once.

Good write up. From what I have read in the past, that seems to be the best way to do it.

Thats how I did it except using goo-gone and fishing line because my dental floss wasnt strong enough so some 6 lb test did the trick. and make sure you use a hair dryer and not a heat gun so you dont bubble your paint.

I didn't use anything abrasive to debadge mine. Just hair dryer, a towel with bug & tar spray, and my thumbs. Not a chance in hell I'm going to take anything to my paint that *could* scratch it at all.

Yeah that looks great! I just used that abbrasive thing b/c I don't really care about my trunk too much. It has paint chips and a dent in it so it wasn't that big of a deal to me. Hopefully one day I could get a CF trunk and paint it or a spec C trunk.

I did the same and used the citrus based goo gone instead of the bug and tar spray. Took about 1/2 hour and looks great!

Thanks for the writeup crookid

No. There are 2 holes drilled into the trunk to "line up" the badge. I think SOA put it there so we wouldnt take the badge off. You can either swap trunks or take the time to fill the holes. I left mine as it doesnt look too bad IMO.

I used hot water, much easier than hairdryer. CAREFULL not boiling temp, just hot enough for a cup of tea for example.

It peels everything off and easy.
