Help... TGV for dummies...

I recently bought some used complete TGV assemblies, but I have a few questions and I'm hoping someone might have the answers.

The sensor seems like a no brainer because if it's not installed correctly the butterflies will either not completely open or no completely close, right? What I'm not certain of is the default position of the motor, if it matters? My guess is that the sensor gives butterfly position feedback and just tells the motor to open or close the butterly more, and it really doesn't care what position it started in. Can someone please verify this or please correct my thinking?

Also, kinda sorta related, does the intake port on the head have the same split that the TGV bodies have?
