Default K/N Recharger Kit. How to re-oil filter?

I searched IWSTI and K/N's site , but couldn't locate the recommended amount of oil needed for re-oiling. I don't want to apply too much oil. Anyone have any info on this?

Thanks in advance.

You really should read the box that the recharger kit came in. The instructions say to clean the filter by rinsing it. This will make the filter look grey-ish. The oil that you use is a red color. Make sure that every part of the filter that is grey is covered with this oil, but the fileter element has to be completely dry for it to work properly. The amount is not really important as much as the coverage is.

yea, i did this to my car a while ago. It says better to give it a couple less dense coats than one big one. So i think i did one, and let it sit for a little bit then put another coat on.

Thanks. I did read it and did all of the steps. Just as a heads-up, I wanted to insure that I didn't over-oil the filter. I understand that the red-colored oil should be sprayed evenly. That's what I did, however, there was no indication as to how many coats are necessary.

The filter is installed and is OK.

The way I did it for my APS 65mm CAI was the following:

Remove K&N filter
Place in box
Set on shelf
Install Amsoil EA filter number EaAU3570 (tight but it fits in there <insert bad joke>)

K&N lets too much crud in and the cleaing/oiling is a PITA. Too much oil = coated intake track and MAF.

^Yeah, the steps in cleaning can be a PITA, but I like K/N products so far. I plan on getting some cleaning solution for the MAF, too.

This is very true a couple of light coats letting it dry between coats and just wait for an even pink color.

use crc electronic cleaner. i used this on my MAF sensor
also when you reoil your filter, i usually spray only one side only (air entering in) with light coats until red, it will soak through. what is the point of oiling the other side?

^^Probably safe on foam filters....

I've found that it is good to keep a stock air filter to toss into the STi when I clean the K&N. This allows me to drive while my filter is drying. Also, I always clean the MAF when I clean the K&N (every 5k miles). I use the CRC MAF Cleaner made specifically for cleaning MAFs.

^^^ U can also use a shop vac to speed things up. After you clean it, use a shop vac to suck water out, it will basically be totally dry immediately after. Also, after you oil it, suck from inside (clean side, air coming in side) to pull any extra/loose oil out.

The best method Ive found for cleaning cotton gauze type filters:

Take a bucket. Add water and some oxy clean. Just do it by feel. Too much oxy clean wont hurt.

Toss the filter in. Leave for 5 minutes. Shake hte filter around int he mixture. You should skim the crap off hte top. leave for another 5 minutes, shake again, soak again.

Hose it off with low pressure, going from the inside to the outside.

Let it dry. If you feel it's not quite clean, repeat the bucket step.

To oil..if your eoil isnt in a spray bottle..put it in one. Spray one one light coat on the INSIDE (Side closest to the MAF). Spray one medium coat on the OUTSIDE. Let it sit for a couple minutes, then pat off all the excess with a paper towel.

Reinstall.
