I always go right behind the front tire and right in front of the rear tire on the frame.

The ones described in the manual are intended for the emergency jack, which has a slot cut to go around the pinch weld. A lot of people don't like to use the pinch welds for jack stands since they can bend.

That said, I have had the car up on 4 stands for days, on the "reinforced" pinch weld spot, and never had any problems. As long as you are careful, make sure the stands are centered on the seams and set the car onto them gently they work fine.

also, a search for "jack stand points" would probably reveal a number of threads on this...

I use ramps for the front tires and jack up the rear at the differential with a padded jack.

i put the car up on jackstand, no bends so far. it seems to hold up just nicely (and i must say that i'm not a master of lowering the car on it gently either)

does anyone have a pic of the bottom of the car where they can point out where else besides the pinch welds where you can place jack stands? I am not too familiar with all the lingo underneath the car like subframe/lower brace bla bla bla....so ya, a pic would help.....and, where do you jack the car up from the front?

front subframe will work, as far up front as you can get it before the black piece. For the rears i either use ramps or just the pinch welds..

i have these: harbor freight 3 ton jack stands

they have Vs cut into them for the pinch welds/tabs. it straddles the pinch weld just like the emergency jack. i stored my car over the winter with these and use them every time i put my car on stands. pinch welds are in perfect condition.

$20 and they are well built. harbor freight is hit or miss. these are a hit, imo.

I use Sears jack stands with the same V on the pinch welds...works fine. I also use a thick purpose-made pad for my floor jack.

if your pinch welds are collapsed, then you don't have to worry about ruining them with jack stands

I've got the same stands as snorky and use the pinch weld locations all the time. I once had my wrx up on stands for 2 weeks using the factory suggested points. No problems for me.

I've also placed my stands just inboard of the pinch welds, there are two bumps that I use to "lock" my stand in place. I don't feel like the car is as secure there, but it works for quick jobs.
