Default TurboXS DTEC install with *PICS* and small writeup

First, this is not to be an END-ALL install. This install was done on a 04 STi. You need to follow the directions in the manual that you get with the DTEC...EXACTLY. or you will blow up your car...with you in it...and you may DIAF! Whoever does this...PLEASE...go out and buy some butt-connectors that have the heat shrink built in. They are crimp type connectors and work very well. You can use a lighter or small soldering torque to heat shrink the connections.

Oh, disconnect your battery first. YMMV. And buy a CD of a shop manual. i can get you one if need be. Pm me.

Solenoid mounting:
First, pic a place for the solenoid mounting. I chose to mount it near the factory solenoid....for a reason...you'll see why. Here's where i mounted it....I took the bracket off that holds the OEM solenoid and wiring connectors...and tossed it. Mounted the DTEC boost solenoid using one of the holes in the strut tower body:

Power and Ground for the solenoid:
Look, you have a ground right there...under the solenoid...its call the CHASSIS of the car! You NEED TO CLEAN THE PAINT OFF THE BODY OR YOUR CAR WILL BLOW UP AND YOU WILL DIAF! again. I cut the black wire short...which was ground....and put an "eye-lit" on it...and put the eye-lit between the body and the solenoid...tighten it down good. For the power...guess what? Guess WHY I mounted it near the stock solenoid? NOPE, you guess wrong. Because the OEM solenoid has 12v to it! YES! splice into the yell/grn....thats yellow with a green tracer, wire of the OEM boost solenoid connector.

Vacuum/Boost line routing:
It will depend if you have an internal or external wastegate. Mine was the Perrin 30R kit...with external wastegate. For external, you need to come from the intake manifold and "T" off...one port will go to the lower side of the wastegate...the other to the right side of the solenoid. (Right side of the solenoid as in, if you are looking at the solenoid, it will have the TXS on the front). The middle port of the solenoid needs to get plumbed back into the air intake, pre-turbo. The left side of the solenoid needs to get plumbed to the top of the wastegate. DONE! Ziptie all your connections...or use hose clamps...or else a line will blow off your wastegate or solenoid and you will DIAF! and blow your car up.

Map sensor hookup:
I ran my map sensor right next to my solenoid. Run a line from the intake manifold for pressure. For this, I cut my OEM boost gauge line, used a "T" that came with the DTEC kit, and ran the vauum hose to it. Use zipties or else! You need to plug the connector of the map sensor into one of the solenoid connectors...It will only fit in one. Poke a hole in the boot on the passenger side firewall...this is the boot that has your main engine wiring harness going through it. I used a razor blade to poke a hole and then run the wiring through. Cover up with convoluted tubing to make it look decent.

TPS & Gear (Vehicle speed sensor) pickup:

Thats the little black round dealy. (exact definition) To connect your TPS I used the pedal sensor....yes gas pedal sensor. You have one on DBW systems. Look above your gas pedal..there is a sensor with 5 wires or so. You need to access your ECU though. Your processor is under your carpet on the Passenger side. remove your kick panel on the pass side and there are 2 push pin thingys (exact term) that hold the carpet down. Peel back the carpet...remove the 3 or 4 10mm bolts/nuts that hold the metal bracket on top of the processor. Then you have a picture like below. You will notice 4 connectors at the processor, disconnect them. For TPS signal...you are looking for a RED wire. On my car...its Solid red. CONNECTOR NUMBER B136, PIN NUMBER 17 Crimp the Green wire of the pickup to the TPS. This pin is on the very end of the connector.
For Gear or VSS use CONNECTOR NUMBER B135, PIN NUMBER 27 Crimp the Purple wire of the pickup to the VSS. This pin is also on the end of the connector. DO NOT QUOTE ME BUT I BELIEVE IT IS GREEN/YELLOW WIRE COLOR! IF YOU CANNOT SEE PIN NUMBERS...GET SOMEONE WHO CAN READ THE NUMBERING ON THE CONNECTOR....IT IS VERY SMALL!

Knock light install:
Here's how I did mine... http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=1054926
Where ever you decide to mount your knocklite, you will need to run the power and ground for it. I used the clock power...I tied in there. I ran a ground somewhere...don't remember where...to the dash brace I believe. RPM will use the Orange wire of the knocklite. B135 pin number 10
I don't remember the color...it has been too long. Knock signal will use the White wire on the knocklite. Crimp that to B136 pin number 25
I believe this was a white wire into the processor. So it should go white-white. NOT 100% though. And different vehicles and years may vary color and pin location.

DTEC mounting:
I chose to mount mine next to the parking brake. Pop up the trim around the parking brake and i used the velcro that was included, to stick the DTEC to the drivers side of the inside of the center console.

I ran all the wires: Knock light, TPS and VSS, boost solenoid and map sensor, through the center of the dash, through the center console and to the Dtec. I used convoluted tubing to hide everything.

You need to run power and ground to the DTEC. For this I used the Power mirror switch power. I believe it was a Yellow/red wire. Then I used the bolt at the bottom of the console...its attached to a bracket under the parking brake handle...for the ground. You can see both in the picture:

I dont have a pic yet...but I ran the communication wires...for the Gameboy...under the latch for the center console lid. i then ran them into the arm rest pocket and when i want to use the DTEC, it is right under my arm. i Have plenty of length for the wires and It works great! Remember to calibrate your map sensor, gear, and knocklite...or your car will blow up and you will DIAF!

Referr to the DTEC manual to where all the connections plug in. From left to right....in short: the pickup on the left hand side. Knocklite next to that. Aux sensor. solenoid and map sensor. Power to the DTEC. Optional phone plug in dealy for wideband. Then the gameboy connections that is built in.

I hope it helps someone.

Ryan

For anyone doing this install here's a link to scoobymods 04 STI pinouts. I'm not sure if it's the same for 05-up though:
