incredible write up, this is an awesome mod to document. Now I have to keep an eye out for a set of v9 seats... Black Spec C's please. I would assume the process is exactly the same.

So, how do you trim the excess foam away from the jdm seat if the cover is over it?

To clear things up.....just the front portion of the cover is glued to the foam, the sides are not. You are able to access the side foam from the opening from the bottom.

I dont think this was directly answered, so ill ask. Are the seat frames different or is it just the seat covers? re-worded-Will the jdm seat cover fit over the USDM seat frame and provide the bolstering we long for?

Although both seat frames are very similar, the bolster supports on the USDM seats are farther appart and don't align exactly with the JDM Seat foam. So the USDM seat fram will not fit the JDM Seat cover. (I tried this first, as it seemed to be the easier way to complete the mod)

In addition I wanted to keep the USDM Seat Back and base together so it could be easier sold. Someone with a WRX could easily transfer their air bags to the STI Seats and it would be a direct bolt on.

So the foam and frame are both different, but by how much? I am just kinda thinking out loud, because I have a metal work/fabrication history and I just really dont want to drop a grand+ on seats and then have to do all this work to them...

Is the lumbar any better in the JDM? The USDM has terrible lumbar support and is my main gripe about these seats...

The frames are very similar exept the USDM frame is two inches wider. I suppose you could pull off the covers from you seats and fabricate a different side bolster bracket and weld them in so that it would push your side bolsters closer together....this would also make a great How-To.

My ultimate goal for this mod was to have a more comfortable and better fitting seat while keeping the stock function and appearance. After sitting in a buddy's car with these seats, I was immediately sold!!! I did not want to go with a fixed back aftermarket seat although the ones I tried felt really good and comfortable. Not to mention, I also recouped over half my cost selling the USDM front seats with air bags removed) along with the JDM door panels and rear seats. (I bought the complete JDM set from WorldOne. So in all actuallity, I only spent $700 on this mod and I am very happy. I think it was well worth the effort!!!!

In my opinion...YES YES YES these seats are definitely better than the USDM seats!!!

I was all over the place during spirited cornering and I found myself using my left leg braced against the door pannel and putting a death grip on the steering wheel to keep my self from moving from side to side. The JDM Seats greatly reduced the effort to stay in place.

I think the lumbar support seemed pretty bad on the USDM seat because of the side bulsters being so far appart. The JDM seats side bulsters are a full two inches closer to each other making lower back/lumbar support much better. I also noticed that my upper body and shoulders are set further back/deeper into the seat back making the lower/lumbar much better.

I went on a three hour road trip this past weekend, I can say that it was a very comfortable trip. On previous trips with the USDM Seats, I found my self constanly changing the seat back position in an effort to stay comfortable.

I was actually going to go with a high quality aftermaket reclining or fixed back seats, but after figuring the cost of two high quality seats (recaro, sparco, bride, corbeau, ect...) sliding rails and mounting brackets the price was a little over $1000 a seat.

So all in all, I saved money, have better fitting seats, still have side air bags and it all looks OEM. I am very satisfied!!!!
