Exclamation Shifter angle mod

OK, so maybe I'm just too picky, but for me the shifter seems to be angled back too far. It's not that it is too far back in the car, (although it could go foreward a 1/2 inch or so ideally), but rather the angle is leaned back too much for my tastes.

I find that when I am pulling back (shifting from 1st to 2nd, 3-4 etc) that my fingers are mostly on the reverse shift interlock and hardly on the knob at all. I wanted to tilt it foreward quite a bit without actually moving it foreward in the car much.

The way to do this would be to bend it foreward right near the top.

I investigated and found what many of you already know. That the actual shift rod is welded to another rod only an inch or so below the reverse shift interlock lever.

Here is a pic of the nit-pick. Notice how far my upper fingers are away from the knob?

To fix this I cut the bottom 80% of the weld where the actual shift rod meets this secondary rod. You need to cut it from both sides. This allowed me to bend the top rod with the knob on it foreward. It is already bent foreward in this pic.

Next simply weld it back together on both sides with your mig,.....uhhhhhhh, .....perhaps I should have mentioned in the step before that you shouldn't start this mod unless you have a welder handy? Be sure to keep the heat to a minimum by doing small welds and cooling it off in between. You don't want to cook the cable for the shift interlock.

All done. Took about 15 minutes. The angle is much better. The knob itself is only about 3/4" farther foreward in the car, but the angle is much better. My fingers touch the shift interlock and the knob at the same time. Ideally they would touch the know first,...but this is much improved anyway.

Maybe I'm just bored. It's raining out. I wonder what I'm going to mod when it actually snows here?
