Looks great! Have a question though, how did you mount them? Did you drill a hole and use the thread inserts or did you just use self-tapping screws?

I really want to do this too. When I bought my car it came with Alpine Type-S 4.5" and they are so quiet I thought they didn't work!

I drilled holes and poped the right size screw in. It worked fantasticly.

Well, I thought the same thing but its in the door so no one will see if you mess up. Just take your time and do a little bit at a time.

The sound difference is phenomenal!

Default Cut away

I did the same thing with a jig saw and but in 5" diamond audio coaxe - night and day (driven by 80W RMS amp). Just remember to prime the bare metal as it will get wet.

I have a question about fitment. I have Alpine 6.5's and when they are installed and the volume is up they hit the door panel. Any clue on how to fix this problem. Id greatly appreciate any.

Don't just use primer - it's not water proof and you will get rust. Use paint over the primer to seal it.

Try and put a rubber gasket so it spaces the door panel out a little.

Great DIY. I've been planning out the steps I'm taking to move my system to the STi from my RSX Type-S. I also have 6.5" speakers today in the rear so I'll be doing the same. On my Acura I had to cut the front doors and used a jig saw with metal blade. With a good blade's it's easy to make a precise cut and it was a minute's time vs half hour with the dremel.

Couple things. What's the depth of the 6 1/2" Clif Design speakers? The speakers I'm moving over to the STi are the JLAudio VR650-CXi's in the rear (2.5" depth) and ZR650-CSi's in the front (2.65" depth). I'm more worried about the fronts. I haven't looked at the track for the window to see if I'm going to have an issue.

One thing I'd recommend is anytime you cut the doors use a shopvac and thorough clean the inside of the door. Then go over it with a damp rag to pick up anything you miss. The metal shavings are very small, bare and about the best way to guarantee rusty doors. I saw my friends VW after a Michigan winter where he didn't clean the interior of the door. He actually had a couple spots where the rust had started to eat away at the metal.
