Most shops will charge you about an hour in labor. Its really not that hard to do if you follow the write ups. I did mine in an hour in a freezing garage in VT.

So you must use a short peice of hose to connect the fuel pump to the fuel filter? Re-use the stock sock and your done? Does the wiring plug right in or do you have to splice in which you would then need some water proof connections? Thanks guys, nice pictures!

Question What went wrong??

Great thread -appreciated the pictures - I wish I had found this before I installed mine as it would have made things go a lot faster. I have a problem which I am hoping someone can shed some light on. I have a '04 STI. Presently just have a 3'' muffler system I built myself (all stainless) from the mid pipe back. I have a COBB unit unmarried at present and a 3'' mid pipe ready to install once I resolve this problem. After installing the pump (standard 255LPH, not the high pressure version) it now has a stumble (at approximately 4500 - 5000 RPM) during hard acceleration through the gears. I used the original wire harness versus the one provided (it fits the pump and since it was factory I left it) and I used the Walbro provided sock filter. I agree it looks inadequate compared to the factory but I did not have a new factory when I did the installation. I have pulled the pump thinking I have a defective unit but since it will not be re-installed until this weekend I am looking for additional things to check. Anyone ever hear of this problem?? Or have any suggestions. I also notice a comment regarding the sock being the only filter (the canister above the pump in your picture holds a filter but until I called the Subaru part guy on it he kept claiming the sock was the one and only) not so. Note - I experience the interference fit (two tips touching) that were identified in the thread. I was concerned with the two tips rubbing (wear and maybe metal into system) so I cut the hose slightly larger than the distance between the two pumps and remove the screw holding the filter bracket. This allows the two units to be attached to the hose and you can seat the pump in the vibration isolator at the bottom. The middle portion is at a V but can be pressed in (compressing the isolator) and the upper filter can be re-attached
Any comments will be appreciated

You would have to take it out of the tank and look at it.

You should just ask the person you bought it from since it was so recent.

I just replaced the fuel pump today, Easy. Don't get the kit, just the pump! Also, did the new top mount Aps intercooler. Time for a Pro-tune.

so is everyone just re-using the stock filter thing that the walbro kit includes?

This may be a stupid question but is a protune needed after installing a Walbro 255? If so, I am getting tuned in 2 weeks, what should I do? Install the day before?

Call the tuner of your choice and ask them what they think. No tune is necessary per threads here and on NASIOC.
