Torsion bars are different on different models because of the weight of the lid. STi lids are a lot heavier than WRX or RS lids.

i found out yesterday that switching torsion bars with a wrx is useless has about the same spring rate as sti ones, dealership sent me wrx ones instead of RS ones so now i have to do it all over again in a couple days: lesson learned..if your going wingless just make sure your using RS torsion bars

^^^ yeah, I think when you buy the WRX wing "kit" (to be installed on wingless trunks) it comes with new torsion bars.

Definitely not true. I had put on a WRX winged trunk on my STi and could have knocked someone out had they been near the trunk when it opened.

Don't think that the torsion bars are not needed for the swap between STi and WRX trunk.

Just a tip for anyone swapping out the locks...

Instead of trying to pry the black clip off just rotate it and slowly pull it off the lock, it works better than trying to pry it off. I broke one of the pieces in two when trying to pry it off.

couldnt you just take off the trunk and not remove the arms and everyhing? I had a friend just take the "trunk" part off not the arms that go into the back ect. Just wondering.

That's what they did in the write up. The other items they removed (that they may have referenced as "arms") are the torsion bars. 4 bolts to remove the trunk lid and then remove the torsion bars (not the trunk support arms).
