Exclamation Gauge cluster/steering column removal

Installing a boost gauge? Tapping the VSS wire for a Navi unit? Then you'll need to remove your gauge cluster and/or steering column.

I had to do this earlier since one of the screws holding down my boost gauge came loose and it was causing an issue with my turn signal/safety so I wrote this up for you all.

Tools needed:

- Phillips head screwdriver

Gauge cluster removal:

1. Remove the 2 screws holding the gauge cluster trim piece.

2. Pull on the trim piece and it should pop off. I had a boost gauge installed and found it was easiest to slide the trim piece out towards the passenger side of the car.

3. Remove the 3 screws holding the gauge cluster down.

4. Now the gauge cluster is free and you can do whatever you need to do.

Steering column removal:

1. At the bottom of the steering column there is 1 screw. Remove it.

2. There a few spots where the lower steering column trim meet with the upper steering column trim. Push in on the lower steering column around the turn signal and wiper stalks and the lower steering column will come free.

3. On the bottom of the steering column there are 2 screws holding the upper steering column down. They are a bit hard to take photos of but you can see them if you look down there.

First screw:

Second screw:

4. I found I needed to remove the gauge cluster trim and gauge cluster to remove the upper steering column trim, so if you haven't done that already do the steps above to remove the gauge cluster. I also have a boost gauge and needed to disconnect the vacuum hose and electrical connector to that before I removed the steering column trim.

I had to push up on the gauge cluster and slide the steering column trim up and to the passenger side to remove it.

upper steering column trim removed:

To reinstall reverse the steps above and you're done.

Default Re: Gauge cluster/steering column removal

Would it be possible to get the pictures back up?

Thanks,
