instead of air tools, would an electric impact gun rated around 300 ft lbs be able to do the necessary work?

This is a beautiful thread. One question, i am confused how you guys are torquing that top nut while holding the allen key? I know you can use these open ended socket wrenches, but how are these being hooked up to your torque wrench?

They should slide back in pretty easily, especially when you put a shorter spring back on the strut. If you have to, get a friend to apply downward pressure to the brake rotors in order to make room to slide the strut assembly back up in there. I did this by myself, so it's not impossible to do alone.

Get it as tight as you can by hand before you install the strut, then hit it with the torque wrench once the car is back on the ground. The strut won't spin with the weight of the car on it.

Disconnecting the front sway bar should give you more room to push the rotor/hub down. The sway bar bolt will spin in the endlink, kind of like the top strut nut, so you need to insert a hex wrench in the center of the bolt to hold it as you turn the nut.
