Yes you need a torque wrench if you want to get things back together properly. And for your first time def. give it more than 3 hours.

i dont know
i have installed alot of suspensions setups on numerous cars

it took me from 930 am to about 3pm
i did take about 1-2 hrs just hunting around town for certain tools that i had broke during installation also
the hardest part was breaking the bolts loose
get a good breaker bar and some extra adapters if necessary
i went through several adapters

^^^ don't expect Subaru to replace your struts if they start clunking, but it shouldn't affect anything else.

I'm sure I'm repeating someone else but after this proceedure is finished, do you need to go and get an alignment done?

Definitely get an alignment when you are done. The springs will settle a litlle after driving on the a while so if you can get the camber close by eyeballing it during reinstallation you can put it off until they settle and not hav to get another alignment if they settle too much.

I just stripped the threads off of a lower strut bolt- the one that adjusts camber. I was trying to torque it to 140ft-lbs, just a smidge over the spec published in this thread, and it never came. Now the nut won't come off, it just spins (with some resistance).

I guess the recommendation to replaces these bolts every time they're removed might have some validity.

one question... i don't know how you're supposed to take this nut off if i'm using hand tools... i thought this is where i use the wrench and the allen key, but how do i get the wrench to hold on to the nut? it's inside the upper mount...

Go by sears, they have some pretty good ones for $100 and then a gun set for $75

Its about that, you could spend $300 and you should have a very nice setup

just curious, does anyone have tips for putting the stock strut/springs back on? I have my coilovers on now, but am selling the car soon. the problem i keep running into is that it appears that my stock front struts are 5" too long to line up with the hub...no matter what kind of brutalizing i do.

so now i'm kinda lost O_o. the bottom of the stock strut is pretty much on the CV, to give you an idea of length. If i could get a tip to get around that one bit, that would rock, as i really, really don't want to spend a few hundred dollars having someone else do it

Dp yopu have the full front end up on the air? It might be that the sway is putting some load from the other side preventing you to be able to match the strut with the hub.
