Awesome step by step. How short are your throws now? Only short throw Ive ever had was the optional STi short throw on my 2002 WRX.

You should never be afraid of an install, especially when uncle Ben is walking through the whole process.

Just an FYI, based on watching this video, installing this shifter is 10x easier to install than the factory short shifter by STi. That things was a major PITA. This one looks like its slightly difficult, but no where near the difficulty of the STI one. Besides, the STI only gave me like 10% shorter shifts, whereas the Cobb one gives you alot more I am told. I cannot wait to test out the shifts and shorter throws.

Ben are the shifts crisper, smoother, jerkier, ... any info you can give would be awesome

I have the factory STI short shift kit as well as the Cobb now and the throws are VERY short. I can adjust the shifter to make them even shorter, but I put it where I like it. That's probably the single coolest feature of this shifter. If you just want to lower your shift knob and leave the throw about the same, you can do that. If you want to leave the shift knob at the same height and make the throw a little shorter, you can do that. If you want to make the throws so short you can barely find neutral anymore, you can do that too .

I ended up adjusting the throw to somewhere around the middle, which is very short with the STI short shifter, but not too short. I also have my shift knob all the way down, as I don't have a center console (about a 3 inch drop over stock). I really like having the ability to fine tune the throw and height because everyone is different and this allows anyone to have the "perfect" short shifter.

I think the Cobb wins hands down, just because of the adjustability. My shifter is shorter than the Kartboy right now (the way I wanted it) but I could also make it longer than the Kartboy too...

I never had the Kartboy bushings, so no I couldn't leave them in . Cobb makes some bushings for their shifter though, so I might get those and see how they are.

They are definitely crisper, and SHORTER (big time). They aren't jerky at all, and you don't lose any of the "smoothness" of the stock shifter. The STI short shifter is a joke compared to this thing . If the STI shifter is 10% shorter, I would have to guess that the Cobb, when adjusted all the way short, could probably be 40% to 60% shorter, or probably the same 10% shorter if you put it at the longest setting.

Thanks for making the video, and thanks especially for adding your thoughts here.

Have you seen a Cobb shifter installed in a car with a console? The reason I'm asking is a combination of the construction of the unit plus that bit about cutting the metal surround; it makes me think the shift lever moves siginificantly forward or backward relative to the stocker. (My guess is that it moves backward.)

damn it ben..you're killing me. You live in LA right? I have the kartboy shifter and all of their bushings right now, but its not as short as I would like. I would love to see how much shorter the throws are in person.

BTW...I am really surprised that you don't have the stiffer bushings yet. Those cobb guys need to send you some.
