Next on the list for videos is the NRG quick release steering wheel & CL Development X-Brace.

TBE install could be coming as well.

The Perrin short shifter install says to just bend up the corner enough to clear the shift rod. This worked for me OK for the length of throw I wanted. I will probably do the cutting though when I replace the Perrin SS with the Cobb.

Default Additional installation notes

1. I have not seen this anywhere else; it is not in the install video, and it is not in the Cobb installation instructions. Given all of the "my reverse lockout rattles after my short shifter install" threads, I strongly recommend that this be done. After the stock shifter is out of the car and while in the process of swapping parts over from the stock shifter to the Cobb unit, there is a soft rubber seat for the reverse lockout spring that should be moved over with the rest of the parts. The seat is located just above the round plate that the screws go through to hold the silver shift boot mount.

2. When securing the reverse lockout cable under the car, I recommend the following steps to ensure that the cable is clear of the driveshaft in all conditions:
  • Set both parts of shift lever to lowest possible positions
  • Arrange cable and tie wraps
  • Raise lever as desired
Also my car already had one cable guide and so required only one additional tie wrap.

Pictures below show the reverse lockout spring seat still on the stock shifter, the seat itself, and the seat installed on the Cobb lever. Also one pic of the cable, guide and tie wrap as I arranged them.

Thanks a lot Ben, I don't think I could have done it without the video or at least done it as fast.
Thanks

Ya, thanks for the vid Ben...and thanks to wdb for the tip dealing with the reverse lockout. I'll probably be ordering this soon.

I installed the Cobb short shifter in my 04 STi following the video. The video was very helpful, the only problem i had was with that stupid reverse lockout pin. It was a major PITA to get out of the stock shifter and back in the short shifter.

Anyway, what I want to add to this thread is about that metal plate that you are supposed to cut the corner out of. If you have an 04, instead of cutting the corner out of the metal trim plate, you can simply rotate the piece of metal 180 degrees and screw it back on. This will put the extra corner piece towards the rear of the car and out of the way of the linkage. There are 2 little tabs of metal sticking out of the bottom of the plate (original bottom), that when rotated you will need to bend about 45 degrees to get it to fit right.

So, take it off, bend those tabs up a bit, rotate 180 degrees, screw back on. Done, make the throw as short as you want.

I don't think this works on 05/06 b/c I think the plate is shaped differently and can't be rotated.

I wanted to add this in here b/c i skipped the cutting of the plate b/c I was lazy, and that left me with not very short shifts, and a shifter that was sticking way back from the stock position and banging on my center console trim.

Just wondering. I just had the shifter installed and it's on the lowest setting. However, it seems to keep hitting the bottom of the shift tray everytime i go into 2nd, 4, and 6th. Is this supposed to happen? The clunk is kind of annoying.

^^yeah...just need to set it (the throw adjustment) a little higher. I thought the lowest setting wasn't short enough anyway?...Middle setting seems perfect for me, and it will keep the sleeve from hitting the metal plate...

Bump!
Thanks HSPN for making a great how-to video. I installed my Cobb SS with no problems and couldn't be happier. Keep up the good work.
