| Junior STI Driver Feedback Score: 0 reviews | Hey guys, I figured if one person found this helpful then other people might like it too. This is just some info and pics from my din pocket install. I added the hole for the iPod adaptor, but that is optional. If anyone needs more info, just let me know. The pocket comes with one small "knobbie" on each side that fits the frame rails of the head unit mount. You will have to drill one hole in each frame rail to hold this little knob. Really easy. However, mine was still a little loose and the door was rubbing when I opened it, so I drilled a small hole into the side of the pocket (only needed one side) and stabilized it through the frame rail with a small screw. Works perfect now. Pic #1 The "knobbie" in this pic is on the bottom, right, sticking out. You can see the hole for the iPod adaptor that I put in with the dremel (top right corner). Look down and a little to the left. It's that dot thing sticking out. Pic #2 This picture shows the mounted knob (sticking through the hole I drilled) and the screw I used to stabilize it on the mounting rail. At the bottom, just to right of the notch, you can see the knobbie sticking through and the black magic marker lines where I marked the whole. You just have to drill it out. On the bottom left, that is the black screw that I put in myself. I just mounted the pocket, held it in place and drilled a small starting hole into the plastic side of the pocket. Then I used a small self-tapping metal screw at an angle to lock it in place. Pic #3 and Pic #4 - Here's two more pictures of how the mounting should look and how it lines up with the head unit. It's mostly trial and error, just be sure to line the pocket up with the head unit (on my setup, the front top edge of the din pocket was touching the front bottom edge of the head unit and it was perfect), push the pocket up so they are touching evenly and then mark the holes on the INSIDE of the brackets. My pictures show the lines on the outside, but before I drilled, I realized I should mark on the inside. Much easier to align the hole that way. The stabilizing screw can be done anywhere. After I set the pocket in the brackets, I just looked for some solid plastic showing through one of the holes already in the frame rails. Also, if you decide to use a stabilizing screw, be sure to do it on the opposite side of the hinge and spring that open/close the door. Pic #5- I also added one of the door open with the iPod player in it for those that asked. Last edited by Wes; 11-05-2008 at 05:21 PM.. |

IWSTI Addict since: Mar 2006 | I wanted to add to this thread since I just finished my installation as well. I just installed an Alpine CDA-9857 and added the Forester Din Pocket as well. Here are my pics from the installation: This first 2 pics show how deep the stereo should go into the bracket using the stock screws. In order for the pocket and stereo to fit into the STI housing, you can't use the trim that it comes with the stereo. Also, you have to get the right angle for the pocket or it will rub or become hidden behind the STI trim. First, you need to grind, cut or sand down the little nub on the back part of the pocket. I used 100 grit sand paper to sand it down making it smooth. The smaller lump should stay. Next, attach the bracket to the stereo. Then, take the pocket and place it so it is rubbing against the bottom of the stereo trim and sits flush with the front of the head unit. Make sure you have the faceplate in. Towards the front bottom portion of the pocket, there is a small hole that looks like a screw goes into it. This is where you want to mount the front screw. You'll have to drill a hole in the bracket, which is very simple. Use a marker to mark where to put the hole on the bracket (you'll have to estimate) and use a 3/16 metal drill bit to drill the hole. I chose to punch the bracket first so the drill bit wouldn't slide around. This pic will show you the approximate location of each screw. Before you go all crazy and start drilling away, only drill the front two holes first. After you have drilled the two holes, attach the pocket using the stock screws. Next, angle the pocket so the little box the nub was on sits flush with the bottom of the bracket. See pic below. Now, mark where to put the back two holes, remove the pocket from the bracket then drill them using the same bit. Now, put the pocket back on, line it up again, then drill into the pocket for the screw to anchor. I used a 5/32 bit, which is a little small and will take some muscle to get the screw in but it hugs the pocket so im not worried. You're done! And here is the final product... |
