In my defense, I had my head up my butt.

I was thinking of it in terms of how I had it setup in my last car which had a sprayer tank in the front of the car, requiring no wiring into the cabin at all for straight boost activation. In my experience, a dry pump won't burn out very quickly, but I'm not talking about Subarus there, so I do not know.

Is there any way to tap this directly into the ECU so that you can do it all electronically?
And also a noob question, I have a 2006 STI, does the stock computer set off the IC spray at WOT?

Thanks,
Mark

I started wiring up my auto spray switch today. I played around with the wiring diagram for a while and decided to procede with my plan to use the orange indicator light to signal when the sprayer is activated rather than when the button is toggled. I made a quick video of how everything operates on my workbench, here's the link if anybody is interested in seeing what I've done. It's 5mb, please save and then view.

http://filebox.vt.edu/users/brkelle2...0STi/Movie.wmv

The pressure switch is set somewhere around 8-9 psi right now, I'll probably adjust it to 10-12, but you can hear it clicking on/off in the video.

I spent most of the time doing a red light mod (red Sharpie) to the two sprayer switches, but tomorrow I should have everthing installed in the car.

Again wanted to point out that you won't be looking at the sprayer button when it is commanding spray. You'll be looking at RPMs, Boost, EGT, AFR, etc. The sprayer button is the last thing you'll be worrying about during aggressive driving. Furthermore, you'll hear the click and you'll hear the I/C spray pump. IMHO (no offense Waz!), the light is best used for indicating Auto-Mode On/Off.

However, with that said, A++ for originality

Yeah, I realize that it isn't the most practical use of the light, but it's fun. I plan to mount the pressure switch under the hood so I won't be able to hear the clicking, and I can rarely hear the sprayer pump running while I'm making boost. Likely the only thing I'll be looking at is the road, but possibly at night I'll catch the orange light in my peripheral vision. The recessed toggle button will be good enough indicator to me that the system is armed, and it'll likely stay in the ON position 24/7 so I don't need that orange light burning all the time.

It's really just a toy. I can't say that I've ever even noticed my Defi warning lights while I'm driving, but who knows, I might change it later if I don't like it.

Just did this mod tonight using both buttons along with Wazazell's idea and it works perfectly. Finally, a useable water sprayer for the track!

I need to do this.

Would this project be too difficult for a person who's new to wiring?

Stee,
I actually still haven't gotten mine hooked up yet. I had second thoughts about putting the pressure switch in the engine bay, I don't know how well it would hold up in that environment. So I plan to run a vacuum line through the firewall, but I was going to take the TMIC off to do that, but noticed that I overtightened the hose clamp last time I had it off and the hose is "extruding" through the clamp. So I decided not to procede until I get that hose fixed.

Anyways, how did you end up wiring the circuit? I had originally thought to wire the indicator light in series with the pressure switch, but after thinking about it I was worried that the voltage drop across the bulb would cause a problem with lifting the relay. Right now I plan to wire the bulb in parallel with the toggle switch, but both of them in series after the pressure switch. This way I'll have no voltage drop before the relay coil.

How did you wire yours?
Thanks.

Wazazell:
Oddly enough(by mistake I might add), I found it works perfectly using the shadetree-trick-jumper wire for the JDM switch indicator light as usual. I too thought about running the light and the pressure switch wires in parallel, but it isn't necessary the way I did it.

I'm an electronics/calibration tech by trade so it's normal stuff for me, but WolfPlayer's schematic is all you really need to make it happen- just follow the color codes and double check your connections and you'll be fine. The combination of the JDM and USDM sprayer buttons and the pressure switch/relay is what this car should have came with from the factory.

FWIW, I snipped the factory foglight connector off along with 5" of wire and used that to make use of both switches. Both sprayer switches have removable plastic key guides to make it compatible.

so you wired it to Wolfplayer's schematic? or differently, because his doesn't enable the light to indicate when the sprayer is activated. I'm assuming you wired the pressure switch in series upstream of the JDM toggle? And then if you did the jumper for the light, then effectively you did wire the light in parallel with the relay. Correct?

This is basically how I intend to wire my switch in, I hope it makes sense and forgive me if I used the wrong symbols for the circuit components

haha, yeah, that coil is actually supposed to represent the coil in the relay.... but yeah, my Electronics Theory book is packed in a box somewhere in my garage... (too lazy to look up a relay symbol on the intarweb too)

Wazazell:
I wired in my pressure switch exactly like WolfPlayer's schematic shows. I used the STI's factory foglight connector for the JDM switch and the stock connector for the USDM switch, and made the necessary taps. The JDM switch's indicator lamp is jumped as normal, but only illuminates when the pressure switch closes.

I apologize if this was mentioned and I just missed it, but is their an easy way (without hacking factory wiring) to make an on/off switch for the spray (not timed)? I realize this isn't an ideal situation for most people, but I'm looking for a simpler approach for a more narrowed use.

Easy enough solution. Would this still automatically cut off with low water? Sorry for the digression. If this has already been covered, a nudge in the right direction would be appreciated

So I can install a JDM button in place of the stock button and the intercooler sprayer will simply run non stop on a loop?

For some reason I feel a little dumb asking this question. Like the answer is so obvious that I should know already... but don't.

I honestly don't care if it references boost or not. If I can just turn on the sprayer when I drive onto the track and then turn it off when I exit the track I'm perfectly happy.
