IWSTI Addict since: Apr 2007 | Welcome to the forums. Read the stickies in the FAQ/Newbie forum. The 2010 STI is not going to be much different (if at all) from the 2004-2009 STI's when it comes to changing the oil. There is already a How-To for this procedure. Check the How-To catalogue. It is stickied in this section of the forums. Engine Oil Change 04 STi You should purchase an OEM oil filter unless you research a better one. You'll need a sealing gasket washer for the drain plug. The dealer will normally ask if you want one when you purchase the filter. Use 5W-30 oil unless your manual or oil cap specifies otherwise. |

IWSTI Addict since: Dec 2008 | This will help if your having an issue with removal. Remove the plastic engine bay gaurd & install a FilterMag on a 2008+ STI I personally always leave the splash gaurd on my cars Last edited by skirkha3397; 02-08-2010 at 02:40 PM.. |

IWSTI Addict since: Sep 2004 | It's a pain in the a$$ to remove the splash guard each time, but your engine bay will be much cleaner if you go to the effort to put it back on after the change. I'm very tempted to cut a little door to access the oil filter without removing the tray. Also, check out a Fumoto valve. Almost as ubiquitous on Subies as Supertones. IWSTI Addict since: Feb 2010 | Fantastic, Thank you so much for those links. I just can't believe it, Why Subaru a multi billion automotive company can't design the guard in such a way that you can access to the oil filter much easier. Anyway, my car only has 380 miles now, the first 3,000 is free, so I will probably cut a hole on my guard and install the quick valve on the second oil change. Thanks a lot you guys. |

IWSTI Addict since: Sep 2004 | My wife's '05 Outback had a little trap door to access the oil filter. Why they did not incorporate that into this car is beyond me. |
