Default Change 2008 Transmission Oil

Give props to this thread
2008 STi transmission oil change
and this thread
Changing 6MT trans oil

Tools Needed:
1. 75w 90 Extra S Subaru gear oil.
4.1 L (some use motul, it depends on your taste)

2. Long funnel
3. Torx 60

4. 10 MM allen and 1/2 torq bar

Steps:
1. Jack the car
2. Pop the hood and locate the screws

use 10 mm allen to take out the screws (remember lefty loosey), you may need a breaker.
3. Locate the screws below:

you need torx 60 for this screw

you need 10mm allen for this screw

outcome: oil is not that dirty... you dont really need to change it. according to the subaru booklet. it only needs I = inspection. I dont get how they expect us to inspect it without draining the oil?

lots of metal shavings

it took 3 tissues to clean it

4. After you drain it, put back the 2 screws you took out from Step 3.
5. Fill Step 2 with 75w 90 oil = 4.1 L

Aftermath:
yup its dirty:

oil that came out:

Thanks. Going to be doing this at my 15k mark. How full do you fill it? Exactly 4.1L? To a fill line? Until it overflows? Etc?

I filled in the used empty 5 liter engine oil with the 75w 90. You can see it has a measurement on that side to make sure it has 4 to 5 liter.

I heard some people fill it till it overflows but i dont want to waste the oil.

Isn't there a trans dip stick? May go that route.

I thought the filler hole on the 08 was on the drivers side of the car, on the side of the transmission.

According to the factory service manual, the fill plug is indeed on the side:

its on the side but as long as the top hole goes into the same place does it really matter? if you measure how much you took out and put same back in, i dont think overfilling would be much of a concern,

at section A., "oil level is up to the bottom of the filler plug." How can you check that? I cant see any oil from the side of the car and stuff from the engine is blocking the front view. You cant see the oil level at all.
