I would really like to do this as well. I have been meaning to get around to it for months, however I can't find a good write up. This one Ardinos did was alright but It really doesn't help wihtout a great picture step-by-step write up. Especially something this involved.

560 ohm may or may not be ok, you'll absolutely have to do the math to know, sorry man, no other way to put it. Look at the picture and you should see how the resistor goes, it's pretty self explanatory unless you haven't dealt with electronics ever, logically there is really only one way to wire this thing. IF you haven't got any electronics experience, your HVAC controls may not be the best place to start, no offence, but I'd hate to see someone screw up their controls trying to follow my directions. You can short something, fry one of the chips or just simply burn out the board if you aren't careful about what you're doing. If you're unsure, please, find someone in your local area who can help you or send them to me.

I don't want you to be afraid to try, just make sure you're careful about what you're doing. (Take it from someone who has learned a few times by breaking things, it's not the cheapest way to do things.)
Where is the resistor calculator? Also, why did you go thru the trouble of soldering in, why not jut run wires up tho the stereo or any 12V ignition and tap in there? Soldering = PITA and dangerous/risky for oem boards...

another question, if I have 3 12 volt red led's can I hook them up in parallel or essentially independantly tapped off of the 12V ignition radio lead? The radio shack specs are 12V 60 mA or 12V 15mA with a 680-ohm pre-wired resistor. AAAAAAAAARG help!

about 8 threads from the top you will see this one
Detailed HVAC red light mod with step by step pics for 05 06
I did this last week and will be improving upon my methods this week or weekend. I don't currently do it for money but am contemplating since I do have 2 cores at home that I will be using as test mules. This thread linked to above is a good guideline for anyone. I am going to try internet available only LEDs for the next go due to the look of the dials at dusk only. In the dark they look perfect but at dusk they look a little uneven... and i mean only a little uneven. This method can be done by anyone anytime for about 30-40 dollars plus your time and sweat learning how to solder.

I found another way of doing the HVAC mod without having to solder and add L.E.D's to have the red look to it.... Currently working on it right now and will have a write up A.S.A.P...

I have a question, isn't there some type of red paint or dye that you can put on the stock LED's to make them red without having to replace them all with new ones??

Or is it because it woudn't be bright enough??

Thanks,

Jay
