IWSTI Addict since: Jun 2004 | Some notes ... AMW has increased the price of their catch cans. This, IMHO, makes the install of a dual AMW catch can setup way too much money. They are now almost DOUBLE the price!!! ($160 a pop). This is way too much for a dual catch can setup. The 90d hose is a Gates hose with the Part Number of 28460 as shown here... http://www.bescaredracing.com/sti/ca...v/DSC02653.JPG I went into the local auto parts store and found what I needed. If you can find a place that carries Gates hoses then they can get this for you. Regarding the heat coming off the turbo, so far it hasn't been an issue. I still don't have any oil in my intercooler (or the turbo outlet hose to intercooler) and I have 9200 miles on the car with LOTS of WOT time. t |

IWSTI Addict since: Mar 2004 | Wolf, I apologize for being dense, but I'm just not seeing something. For the 2 breather holes on top of the crankcase, as well as the PCV threaded into the intake manifold, how were the hoses routed? In these 2 pics, DSC02656.JPG and DSC02657.JPG, it looks like the breather hole on the pass. side of the block (the one that has the electrical connector on it) is the one going to the catchcan, but I can't tell if you've got the center breather T'd in or not. Same for the PCV behind the in mani. My issue is that I have the 257 block but most everything else is from my WRX, so my PCV setup is the old Y which used to route the lone breather and the PCV to the intake. I'm uncertain about the 2nd breather. |

For the STI there are 2 systems you need to worry about: PCV and Breather. In the stock setup the breather system has a hose from each valve cover going into the hard black metal tube on the front of the intercooler. The entrance on this metal tube for the breathers from the valve covers is at the back left and back right on the tube ... the parts of the tube closest to the intercooler on the sides. The 90 degree angle on this black metal tube is the exit for the breather gases that, in the stock setup, is routed to the turbo inlet tube. I take the flexible tube off that 90 degree metal tube, route the hard tube to the catchcan with some more hose, and then route from the catchcan back to the turbo inlet tube where I use the stock hose at the turbo inlet tube. For the PCV, I disconnect the stock hose from the gray plastic connector on the turbo inlet, put a new 90 degree rubber hose on that gray plastic connector on the turbo inlet, connect the stock hose from the PCV to some more rubber hose, route it to the catchcan, and then route back to the new 90 degree rubber hose using some more hose. I don't 'T' anything in. The PCV stays separate. The breathers are T'd from the factory into a single hose. I simply route that hose to the catchcan before it gets back to the turbo inlet. If you are still cornfused then I can take one of my pics and color code it so that it is more easily visible ... ahahahha, my choice of black hoses works pretty good to keep it stealth. t Last edited by WolfPlayer; 10-30-2005 at 12:25 PM.. | |

| STI Guru Feedback Score: 0 reviews | WolfPlayer, are you catching lots of fluid in both CCs? Mine are teed off (PCV and valvetrain vents) into one, I catch very little oil. I put in some filtration media and it gets wet and smells like oil and gas, which is good. My hose going from the PCV exhaust was black as hell, so I recently had t to replace that piece of hose for a new one. How are your CCs performing? |

IWSTI Addict since: Feb 2005 | That setup is extremely nice. Just a note though, Harman wouldn't install catch cans in that location because of the fire danger with oil sitting that close to the turbo. Your experience seems to have disproved that possibility, but just thought it was worth noting. My catch can is actually in the drivers side wheel well. |
