06-07 WRX have a "Push" type clutch, where 02-05 WRXs and 04-07 STI have "Pull" type. The 06-07 STI has a different design slave cylinder (then the 04-05) Pull Style- The release bearing is snapped into the pressure plate. It requires the release fork pivot rod to be removed to separate the transmission from the engine. The slave cylinder actuates forward (pointed away from the firewall). Push Style- The release bearing and fork stay with the transmission when separating it from the engine. The slave cylinder actuates rearward (pointed to the firewall). | |

IWSTI Addict since: Aug 2008 | I'm not 100% sure but I would check the fluid level, re-bleed it, check the slave and the shift linkage. Also it could be your brass synchros, try changing the tranny fluid and use the OEM stuff. Last edited by 23-10; 01-05-2010 at 08:37 AM.. |

| Grassroots STI Racer Feedback Score: 3 reviews | i have bleed the master clutch cylinder many times. i dont think there are any air left but there could still be air somewhere in there. can you explain more about the brass synchros? i feel like the clutch isnt able to push the clutch apart on high speeds, i guess there is alot more pressure on those speeds. another time hit will do it is when i do a quick shift on any speed, slow speeds too. i wonder if i should have kept the farrel in the slave cylinder? this part of it. |

IWSTI Addict since: Aug 2008 | Do a search on the synchros a lot of people have 5th gear grinding in 04-05s. I dont think its a good idea to do a quick shift at high speeds & its not going to really slow you down if you do a normal shift. I think the ferrel is the main part of the delay delete. |

IWSTI Addict since: Nov 2009 | I just purchased 8 of the bolts through Fastenal today. They'll be to me on Friday. I will be doing this modification. My main reason for doing this mod is that I cannot get on the power as quickly when shifting from 1st to 2nd. There is a noticeable lag between the two gears that almost feels like the clutch is slipping(which it basically is). The delay valve is installed to ensure that any retard with no clutch experience can drive the car and not start snapping driveshafts and ruining the transmission. I for one will do the mod and see how it feels. My M3 didn't have the delay valve installed and shifting on the power from 1st to second was quite enjoyable. If I don't like the feel after the mod, I'll just put it back to stock. Are there any long term testers that have any feedback? Last edited by DougNM3; 01-25-2010 at 02:04 PM.. |

| Grassroots STI Racer Feedback Score: 3 reviews | i finally got the bolt in and bleed it. it works pretty good but im not sure if my bleeding steps are the correct way. i did notice after a week or so that the pedal does slowly lower. it doesnt come back completely all the way up. so it may come back up about 95% im wondering if there is still air in it. |
