take both cars to a person who actually knows what they are doing and give them a bunch of money.

Well the easiest way to do it is to take the wrecked car to a professional dismantler and have them pull everything out for you.
Make sure you have them save every single nut, bolt, washer, plastic clip and small part that comes off the car.
That way you have a bunch of spares when you go to do your swap and it is always nice to have extras along the way.

The other nice thing about this method is that once you get everything you want off the wrecked STi, you can leave the rest of the wreckage behind as scrap for the dismantler to deal with that way you dont have to pay again to make it all go away.

Once thats all done, you can then lay everything out in your garage and take inventory and set out a game plan for what you want to swap.

I am speaking from experience here as I am right smack dab in the middle of this very process. I purchased a wrecked 2005 STi with 16K miles on it and I am swapping the tranny, rear end and Brembos in in a week or 2 into a 2006 WRX.

There were a few things that I had to purchase new due to damage and I really wanted to clean everything up real nice before the swap. Not having that wrecked shell crowding my space makes it a lot nicer and easier to manage.

Well it all depends on how mechanically inclined you are. I'm not sure about an 06 wrx swap but most include swapping the dash and doing some wiring.

I wouldn't suggest taking it to some one just to take apart because it will be expensive, you would still have to pay them to get rid of the car and I think its better to do things yourself it will help you later in the swap.

I would imagine he wants to swap everything he can into the wrx, most importantly the motor.

To the OP you have to swap the entire sti motor into your wrx the blocks are not the same.

Did you by chance ever own an RX-7. You sound like a lot of FC owners...

Good luck on that swap!

It is so funny hearing STi fanboys talk like this.
It is also NOT that far from an STi.
And with that wrecked STi you can make your car BETTER than an STi if you want to and learn a lot in the process about your car.

Hybrid motor, using the STi bottom end and the WRX cams will give you a serious package worthy of any STi fanboy admiration.

I took a wrecked STi to a dismantler and they pulled and separated EVERY nut and bolt into individual boxes as they removed parts from the car, rear end bolts, engine bolts, suspension bolts, interior plastic, harnesses etc were all kept separate for me.

Then when they were done, I came and picked up all my parts and sold them the shell with doors, trunk and all the other non mechanical and interior parts for $200.00, they then charged me $500.00 for the dismantling service so my net cost was $300.00 !

That to me is well worth the cost that I paid AND I did not have to deal with what I considered the "scrap", they were happy to have it considering they were going to sell the doors, bumper, quarter panels, and everything else to body shops in the area that needed parts.

It was a win win situation and I feel like I scored a home run and a half.

I did have to break down some major components into the individual pieces once I got the stuff home but that was easy, for example they pulled the entire strut and front wheel as a unit, same with the rear end and both rear wheels....again I had that stuff broken down within an hour of getting it home.

Now when I finish my swap, I will have a TON of WRX parts to sell and my net for the swap should be somewhere around $2000.00 ......if that.

So you see, you can do really well converting a WRX to STi like status
AND GET THIS the real kicker is that when you are done, you will still pay insurance on a WRX not an STi.

Don't listen to these guys that try to make you feel less than because you want to have some of the things that the STi comes with in your WRX, but be WELL BELOW the premium they paid for their STi. They are just pissed that they don't have the wherewithal to do it themselves.

Start calling dismantlers in your area and work a deal with them. You will save yourself a ****load of time.
