Default 06 STi Swap into 05 RS. Help me with my grey areas please.

So were putting in a 2006 sti motor into a 2005 2.5rs. For the swap we have (all off the 06 sti)

Complete Motor/Turbo
Full Uncut Harness
ECU
Immobilizer
Steering Colum
Pedal Assembly
Motor Mounts
CrossMember with Steering Rack
Gas Tank Sensor

Now, Due to money issues were using the stock 2.5rs tranny and drivetrain. First i want to say DONT lecture me on this about power/strenght, or should i say lack of strenght. I KNOW. the motor in the rs blew, this is a daily driver, we need this car back on the road ASAP, the sti swap was just way to good of a deal to pass up, and honestly pretty much a cheaper rout to go.

So these are my main concerns.

We didnt get keys with the swap. So obviously the car isnt gonna start. IVe heard someone has found away to disable the imobilizer now days. is this true and does anyone know? the only way i know of is to go 04 sti ecu, which is flat out, out of the question right now. So is there any other way to disable it? Cuz ive heard rumors, now that i already got the swap of course, that dealerships wont touch a swapped car like this and give us a new set of reprogrammed keys. i think i have a hook up at a suby dealer that could get me around this if thats the case. but its about 90 miles down the freeway. not exactly an easy drive with a suby that wont run. So any bright ideas to solve our imobilizer issue? without spending a ton of money. were flat out maxed on money right now and still havnt even got a new clutch, or front mount intercooler yet.

2nd the 06s started getting so freaking fancy with the wiring i cant hardly keep up on all the new technology, theres not gonna be something in the ecu thats going to be upset cuz were using a 5spd tranny and not the 06 correct? Pretty positive we will be fine, but knowing my luck, theres gonna be something crazy on that year thats going to screw us.

an my last question is again about the imobilizer system. It consist of a box (the imobilizer), the ecu, the key, and the anntenna, which ive also heard called the key ring... what exactly is this? Is it located on the steering colum im assuming?

Pretty sure ive got everything else under control, But if anyone can think of something else thats going to pop up as a problem during this swap, or is going to need some attention, please bring it to mine. i tend to forget things, and i want to solve as many problems or be prepared for them as early as possible, gotta get this car back on the road asap. Thanks for the help in advance.

The only insight or advice I can offer is if I were you, I wouldn't do it. It's not an impossible swap because anything is possible. If you ask me it seems like the dollar price on it is worth it.. but it's not worth the time and headache it's most likely going to cause you. I'm willing to bet that in the end it would've been easier to find an 06 STi that needed an engine.
Good luck man.

thanks for the response appreciate it. but i found away around it. Shouldnt be too bad.

ive had several people tell me to do this swap in a different car. i dont htink people realise this is a daily driver that blew its motor, and needs a replacement asap. its not even paid off yet, if he tried to sell it he would be head over heals in negitive equity. So a different car is out of the question. the swap is purchased so a different swap is out of the question. only thing to do is push forward with it.

but i found a way that would work. i was just hoping for a better one. but thanks anyways!

Well, that is very interesting project. This link from RS25.com - The Subaru Impreza RS Owners Club should help to achieve your goal. Browse on this tread and I am sure that you should be able to find some guidance.

Good luck

I'm sure it'd work. LIC in Novato, CA quit doing swaps........but they are really cool and could probably give you some info or point you in the right direction. Im sure it can be done, dont give up

If it's a DD... you're going to be walking places a lot with that drivetrain.

i know it will work. its not that hard of a swap. its pretty much straight across bolt in.

my only concern was getting around the immobilizer since i didnt have keys for it. So it will get done, were starting tonight. and like i said, i found out how to solve our key problem. i was just hoping for a better/easier/cheaper way to do it. no such luck no big deal.

and the drivetrain isnt hear as bad as you think. it will hold up just fine. with the lower gearing and the gears it has, its mechanical advantage will hold the same power as a wrx tranny. which true are still arent the best trannys, but the only reason they brake, is because people cant drive them.

a 02 wrx tranny (worst wrx trans by far) will hold well over 303awhp on a daily driving, every weekend at the strip, and such just fine. the difference is between that and the ones breaking 07 trannys on stock hp... the driver. the drivetrain will hold the power just fine for now untill a sti drivetrain fits into the budget.
