Default timing belt

if i take my timing belt off without holding the cams will i bend the valves? im doing a full build and im stumped at this, i keep hearing diff. things from everyone please help

Man, I've done a lot of timing belts on Nissans, but never a Subie... I have to do mine soon and will do it myself, but I bought a manual on ebay. I haven't read the timing belt section yet, but intend to follow the directions and use the recommended tools... That's what I'd say to do, sorry if I isn't much help...

spin the motor to top dead center and then undo the belt..you wont hit anything
