Default How to: Paint v-limited lip with Bedliner spray and install

Hey just purchased a vlimited lip replica from EBAY from a seller called baysonR it was like 155.00 shipped and it arrived in less than a week. Since this was a replica I didn’t expect much of it but it definitely needs to get painted.

Now I was previously planning on just painting it black with some bumper coating and slapping the sti badge from fast wrx on it and calling it a day. But I was reading here on the forum someone sprayed it with bedliner rattle can so I thought maybe I should give it a try. My main concern was flexibility didn’t know if the bedliner spray would crack when I put the lip on.

Well heres a quick small write-up on how I did it….

TOOLS
-3m sandpaper 220 and 400 gritt wet or dry
-painters tape preferably the blue or green one
-cordless drill
- 1/8 13/64 drill bit
-Spray-on bedliner paint
-3m wax and grease remover
-Bucket
-(2)Sawhorse
-jack and stands

1. first find some good support to do the sanding and painting preferably (2) sawhorse or a table.

2.grab a bucket and fill half way with water and drop a rag in it get the sheet of 220 sandpaper and cut it in half horizontally and fold that piece in a trifold matter of course with the grit on the outside. Leave the sandpaper in the bucket for about 5 mins so it soaks in.

4. get the 220 grit and start sanding the surface that will be painted (pretty much the whole thing) I was a little rougher on the edges of the lip where it has some seam so once painted it wont show.

5. Make sure you keep the sandpaper wet and the lip so you can get a better cut.

7. dry the lip and apply the 3m wax and grease remover and clean the lip as best as possible you can also go over it with a tack rag if desired.

8.now here Is when the tape comes in I basically taped any part of the lip that would come in contact with the bottom of the front bumper to minimize gap due to extra buildup of materials. Which may affect flow at higher speeds and I assume stress on the clips and bolts holder the lip to bumper.

9.now the bedliner spray shake vigorously for 2 mins after ball bearing starts hopping around.

10. start spraying light coats in a pulsing manner back and forth. Making sure not to make it to thick so it comes out blochy.

11. apply about 2 good coats (more if extra texture is desired) (after second coat)

while waiting for it to dry about 20 minutes. Take a break (drink mango nectar)

12. secure on jackstand DO NOT USE RAMPS made the mistake to use the ramps and had to lift up the car regardless to get the ramps out.

this is what will happen if you use ramps like I did you will get stuck and have to lift the car inorder to slide the ramps out.

13. use extra jack stands to help you line and left up the lip with the no damage draggin it around. (in case ur on ur own)

14.okay remover the black clips from bottom of bumper and line the holes up from the lip and fasten.

15. drill 1/8 hole for the two end screws on both sides ( the hole is just a pilot hole so it can be easier to put the screw in.

16. your going to have to drill 5 13/64 in the center area and 2 on opposite sides of the lip in between the two push in tabs on both the right and left side.

17. fasten all check all bolts, screws and clips.

18. step back and Enjoy.
