Default How To: DSS rear axle upgrade

Heres the tools you'll need

Start by cutting the bands off the boots

Slide the boots off the CV housing

Clean off the grease from around the inside of the CV bucket thats closest to the differential housing and remove the clip thats holding the CV together.

It looks like this when removed

Now that CV will come apart.....dont panic as the bearings will fall out when you pull it out....just don't loose any of them.

Now remove the clip with the clip remover tool and then slide everything off the axle

Once you have everything off the right side of your axle now you can put the axle nut back on the end of the axle as this is what you'll be putting in your vice to hold it.

This next part is kindof unprofessional but it worked for me.

Next you take your vise grips and clamp onto the axle and with your hammer wack the vise grips so that the axle pops out of the other CV casing. It takes a good wack to free it as it is held in with a c style clip.

Once that apart take the DSS axle bar and grease it up and dont forget the clip, feed it into the CV making sure you dont catch the c clip and damage it.

Once thats popped in put your new boots on the axle like so

Now moove over the right side again and assemble the bearing collar over the axle then place the bearing stay over the axle shaft and put the clip on it to lock it on.

Place some grease that comes with the new axles into the CV housing first.

Place all the bearings back into the assembly. This is the tricky part.....you need to hold all the bearings in place then slide the assembly back into the CV....like so

Now your ready to install the large C-clip back together

Pack both CV sides with grease supplied with the axles

Slide your boots over the CV buckets then with the clamps provided secure the boots firmly in place.

And all done.....now go clean yourself off
