Ok guys I finally got around to finishing the writeup for the rears. I have no idea what I did with the pictures tho so I'm going to have to take more when I get a chance but at least the instructions are there.

Again any suggestions feel free to post!!!

My biggest is when you pull the clips off the pad pins, don't drop the clip... I found it but yikes what a PITA.

great write up! it exactly what i did to my teacher's wrx to replace his stock pad to cobb pads

but i am wonder that one thing that u didn't add is C clamp
because it help us to push a piston back inside the caliper before put pad in the caliper?

btw-still great write up

Personally, I did not like the idea of a c-clamp. If you pull the retaining pins out, squeeze the tabs at the top of the pad, you'll feel the pistons give. That'll be enough to get the new pads it w/o a problem. (Thanks to spazegun for that tip!)

You might want to add that the little metal things on the pads themselves are actually 'screech clips,' IIRC. They're there to drag on the rotor and make noise when your pads get really low.

A C-clamp will obviously work to compress the pistons, but it generally seems to be overkill. I've had to use a c-clamp on my RS in the past, but with my STI I just stuck my fingers in there and squeezed. I've also seen a quick levering with a flathead screwdriver used, too.

Yea I'm not a big fan of clamps either especially with the painted calipers. I can just see them doing some damage to the paint. The pistons are easy enough to move with your hand or by the previous suggestions.

I don't see the need for the clamps, especially on the bigger brembos..
When I change my pads I've never had a problem compressing the caliper's pistons w/ my hands... maybe i'm just lucky though.

Thanks for this write up, it's def a nice addition to the collection. =)

Just thought I'd share this video I found on HSPN.tv. A great video on how to change Brake pads and bleed your brakes after.

Bolt the caliper back up with the two 17mm bolts and torque to 80 ft. lbs

Is this correct? It seems a lil' high to me when I was doing my brakes today.

Oh man good catch!!! It's actually 47.9 ft. lbs!! When I did the write up for the rears I basically copied and pasted some of the instructions and must have missed that number. I inserted the manufacturer's blow-out sheet for proof. My apologies to anyone this may have caused issues for!

Just for future reference it is bad form to hang the caliper from the brake line;Especially a heavy Brembo caliper. Try using some safety wire through a caliper mounting hole to a point on the frame. Doing that should take the load off of the brake line.

The only reason you see that in the one picture is that I was changing out my brake lines anyway but yes you are definitely right. Doing that can cause stretching and fatigue of your brake line.
