This Oil Cooler kit was introduced to the public after testing several iterations on Brian Lock's USTCC race car in the deserts of Arizona. The stock WRX and STi lack an oil cooler and running any turbo charged motor hard puts an extreme load on the motor's cooling systems and fluids. Keeping your oil cool not only prolongs the life of your oil but more importantly, it prolongs the life of your motor. This is one of the most overlooked upgrades on the WRX / STi and we feel that anyone who drives their turbocharged vehicle hard should have one. Perhaps that's why the Spec. WRX owners can benefit from this shortblock also since their heads will bolt right onto it; however, combining their heads with something like the Helix cams and valvetrain and this shortblock would yield something with peak power output similar to the USDM STi.
