IWSTI Addict since: Aug 2005 | First off I want to say to the original poster of this topic, I owe you an appology. I now know what you were talking about with respect to these COBB rear anti sway bars. I will say this first and then tell my story. Anyone thinking of buying the COBB bar, please think twice for your 2008-2009. It is all show and no go!!! I ordered the COBB bar for my 2009 a week after I picked up the car last October. When the bar came in I was really taken back. It looked like a really interesting design but as a master machinist and an engineer I was a bit worried. The first thing I noticed was that the end pieces are made out of aluminum and the bar itself has a splined end. I couldnt see how this bar could hold up to the forces applied especially using aluminum ends? So....installed the bar at 420 miles. My car is a DD to and from work and that is all. This past weekend my buddy and I took our cars to go visit Agile Auto to discuss some work for my buddies car. On the way home on some twisty roads I noticed my car was just not right. When I pulled in the driveway I noticed that there was something hanging down and it was blue. As I crawled under the car, I saw the end cap of the bar just hanging down, ( I will post picks). After yelling and screaming I could not believe what I was seeing! The splined aluminum was rounded just as I thought would happen. I couldnt imagine the guys that want to use this bar for a track car??? What a turd! Whoever designed this should be fired! Im hoping someone from COBB visits these forums because I now know of atleast 7 of these bars that have failed this way just in my local area. Would love to hear the explanation on this one. I am going back to a one piece bar like the hotchkiss on my 05. Way to go COBB! |

IWSTI Addict since: Jan 2005 | Cobb should warranty this. Did you take any photos of the messed up bar? I'm sure many on here would be interested to see them. If you're looking for alternatives, I'm a big fan of my Whiteline rear sway (the front one too.) |

IWSTI Addict since: Oct 2006 | I agree ,I bought the very first set for my 08 STI both front and rear. The rear is a bad design it came of the the back plat twice in the track, I had to put red strength loctite. I havn't taken it to track yet, but I am always worried when it will come off. The gap tolerances for mount is terrible. The Hex bolts that hold the aluminium plate does not seem to take too much torque other then hand tight and are of low quality. And when you do torque them they keep coming off. Talked to Cobb, but I don't think they can do anything other then recommend more torque, Which could potentially damage the thread or glue it down more. Glued down Swaybar go figure. Personally will never buy one from Cobb again. I think they have screwed this one up by trying to be the first to the market. |

IWSTI Addict since: Aug 2005 | I have not tried to contact Cobb, only because in talking with Hill at Agile the other owners have and there was no real admission that there is an issue. Im just warning you all that for $330 it is junk. It is still on the car and I havent touched it so I can get picts when it clears up outside. I know that I dont want to mess with it and its coming off the car ASAP! If 400 miles of driving to work causes this issue, its not work messing around with. Applying more torque isnt the answer in an aluminum block and I also used locktight on the set screw. |
