I'm saying it because it's not a radiator; IE; heat exchanger designed specifically for thermal transfer from liquid to ambient airflow. True Water-to-Air exchangers look like a radiator for a reason... it is a radiator

While there are difference between an engine cooling system radiator and intercooler radiator, they are MUCH more similar than A/A compared to W/A.

That thing looks like an intercooler that has water flowing through it, which would be horribly inefficient given the thermal properties of liquid vs air.

Well this was an awesome few hour read at work now I'm done. More updates! I dream of building out my 2012 like yours. I have 52k and no ringland failure should I consider it safe?

M
I belive we agree. The part that seemed telltale to me were the bars.
It should not be difficult to find an appropriately sized rafiator either. There are parts from cars, motor cycles, rvs, and machinery to choose from.

Alright... Final update. Done with the STi and have moved onto new projects. It's been fun...a good learning experience but I have come to realize that it'll never be what I'm looking for. I ended up buying a 335d and have started work on it (tune, deletes, etc). Buying a used car sucks--there's a lot of maintenance but this engine is worth it. I came from diesel...going back to diesel.

So did you sell the car?

If it's not a sports car, I love diesel. Better mileage, more torque to do work things, and the motors are just built much stronger. I really enjoyed my truck, but since I had to get rid of it for a 4x4, I can say that I am also happy with my Jeep diesel. It tows pretty well, but not quiet as easy as the truck did.
