Well I'm giving it one last college try tomorrow. I also ordered some heat wrap + clips and a cobb heat shield. All that should be here tomorrow. If I can not get the DP off tomorrow then I'm going to just have it fixed up Sunday at the shop. I figure I'll take the TMIC off, see if I can do it, and if not then give up lol. I'm hoping I can do it, b/c I'd like to take that money and put it into a protune instead.

did you pick up a spare turbo-to-dp gasket? I'm told you can re-use the oem ones about once, so you could do that. I'm picky, so I bought a new one.

I'll be coming back down from the Poconos tomorrow maybe around 1ish if you want me to stop in.

Frank

Dude this has got to be the most detailed journal anywhere.

I like that car, plain and simple. Exhaust is hot... in more ways than 1.

I do have a brand new gasket. It's not one of those copper ones like you mentioned, just an OEM Subaru one.

And if you're in the area sure! I'll be waking up at like 10 or 11 to start getting to work on it. I have nothing scheduled for tomorrow aside from getting this beast working, so just give me a ring.

Thanks! I did the same kind of detailed journals when covering my overclocking experiments. I figure that's what these forums are for!

Well, being persistent paid off. Got the downpipe installed in a few hours.

As usual here's the positives and negatives of the install.

Positives:
  • I can now mount/dismount my TMIC on the first try in like 5 seconds.
  • This DP weighs 10.4lbs. The stock one weighs what, 23lbs?
  • Tbh I don't even really smell a lot of fumes!
  • Noise increase is there, but again it's only under full throttle w/ this exhaust system where I notice a real beastly roar! I like it personally! Video will be taken later.
  • No CEL, a little smoke from the PB Blaster burning off on the DP but aside from that all seems well! Protune will be happening as soon as I can fit it in my schedule.
  • Completey forgot to mention this. I fixed my rubbing issue w/ my tubing on the A/O separator. I routed it under the oil line which I thought wasn't possible before. Well, it worked.
Negatives:
  • I ordered heat wrap + bindings + a Cobb heat shield. Heat wrap would've worked great but the bindings are too small of a diameter--it was late when I ordered em, I guess I ordered the wrong ones I'll fix this later.
  • Cobb heat shield wasn't a perfect fit but it really was minor. Look @ pic below for detail.
  • Getting the 5 bolts off on the top proved to be challenging even w/ the TMIC off, but without taking it off I personally believe it would've been impossible w/ the tools I had.
  • Getting the downpipe back on proved a little tricky by myself but I managed. I was trying hard not to damage the new gasket which kept moving around when I was working on getting things lined up. Eventually things just clicked, it went on all the bolts and everything was gtg.
  • The hanger on the bottom for the downpipe didn't really line up 100%. I put the bolt on basically as hard as I could but it didn't thread the last couple millimeters--but it is on HARD so I doubt it will cause any issues.
  • When taking the TMIC off I noticed I torqued the left mount down too hard when I reinstalled it last and the rubber ripped in half. It's not a huge deal really as everything is just squished together. I now have them on with less force and that should be fine now.
  • Had to bend the bottom heatshield a little, no biggy. Vice grip did the trick.

On to the flash. I was so relieved to get everything installed I packed up the tools, started up the flash and ran inside to get changed as I went out afterwards for a drive to a friend's house. Came back out and it was just hitting 100% so I fired it up and all went well!

I really like it so far but I'm not going to push the car too hard. As stated I'll try and get a protune asap for an added layer of safety as I'm on a catless dp and have the intake in now as well.

Dynos will be coming soon!

And what's this? The front sway setup of course.

You know it heh--thank you.

Also I forgot to mention but some Crawford Performance swag came in. Nice quality stuff--a white polo and a black flexfit hat. Gracias CP!

So I drove the car last night w/ no issues whatsoever. And I took it up to maybe 5500rpm a few times.

Today I went to the bank, car wash, gas station, and then for a drive before I picked up my food to dry the car off.

Well, at maybe 5k rpms (which I had hit before yesterday) there was a slight engine "stumble" is what I'll call it. I got a CEL and when I popped the hood I noticed water droplets on the CAI filter... could the water have gotten in? There was no black smoke, no loud bang or anything and everything sounds normal now.

Obviously I'm going to run a check on the AP to see what's up, but I guess I'll just keep it under 4k rpm from now until my tune on Nov 1st just to be safe.

Eating some lunch now then I'll run the code.

EDIT: Fuel pump cutout maybe? I have no idea. Must eat faster!

EDIT2: If it was caused by the water, which I'm kind of leaning towards, I'm now thinking fabbing a shield would be a good idea to prevent that happening. Then only submersion would cause probs.
