| From all the experiences that people have said about the stock stereo I'm definitely going to swap it out for a Pioneer HU that I have that I didn't put in my current car. My question is that is there a way to keep the factory AUX jack thats in the armrest when I have an aftermarket HU? The pioneer HU has an AUX input on the back and I was thinking that maybe I can plug in a mini-jack stereo cable into the HU then somehow splice the other end to ??? or whatever it needs to be wired to so that I can still use the AUX jack in the armrest. Is there another harness adapter available so that I could keep the stock AUX? I look at the main wiring harness adapter and it only has like the wiring for the steering wheel controls and I know there is more than just that plug that plugs into the factory HU. Thanks in advance. |

| the back side of the aux jack uses a special molex connector that most likely will not interface with your new headunit. you might be able to splice a new end on it but when i saw how thin the wiring was i opted to just replace it all together. i ended up pulling the module out and replacing it with RCA connectors and used a decent rca cable between the new connectors and my hu's brain. i could have easily done it with a 1/8" mini jack too though (same as stock). pictures of the finished product are in my journal below if you're interested. a dremel, soldering iron, and a quick trip to radio shack was all i needed |

| You might be able to cut the connector for the stock aux port and solder on a standard mini-jack. There are 3 or 4 wires in the stock cable. I think the stock HU senses whether or not something is plugged-in, which is why there are extra wires. David |

| what issues are you talking about? I dont have any complaints about the OEM head unit. Just curious or do you want more power and capability?

| My OEM head unit almost always sounds terrible on radio. Usually too much base even with bass at 0 and it just sounds poor all around. It does sound a bit better on CD though... I'm thinking of swapping mine out also..

| You can still use the factory jack but there will be some testing and soldering/crimping involved. What you can do is cut one end off of a mini jack (assuming thats what will be plugged into the Pioneer if its a newer model.) And strip back all three (or four) wires (Left+, Right +, Common NEG (could be two negative wires)). Plug the other end into the AUX jack in the center console, go to the AUX plug at the back of the factory stereo. Set your multimeter to continuity setting and test for continuity between each of the wires. Then solder the cut end of the mini plug onto the correct wires at the plug where the factory stereo is, and plug the mini jack into the back of the Pioneer. |
