has anyone experienced this.

pressed the clutch in to start the car and turned the key and heard what sounded like a grinding noise from the starter. similar to when you have the car started already and turn the key on again. But the car was not on and after the grinding noise, the car still did not turn over.

after waiting a few seconds, i tried again and the car started. Any ideas? I swear the car was not on.

I had this when I first got my '08. It lasted about a two months or so and there was no rhyme or reason to when it would happen. One day it just stopped and I haven't heard it for about 8 or 9 months now. The dealership took a look and said everything looked fine with the starter.

I posted a thread about this a while back, but I can't seem to find or I'd point you to it. Other than being embarassing, it didn't cause any other issues with my car. A few other people reported the same issue (a couple pre-08 owners too).

I have had a noise here/there, almost like rocks rattling around in something metal kinda , but softer sounding...just w/ key on acc engine not started ... not sure if similar or not, but weird stuff!

I've had this happen from time to time on the Civic I used to own primarily when it was really cold out and the car's been sitting for a good while. I never had it checked out but nothing ever happened and the car would always start fine.

I have this problem too. It went away for about 6 months but I heard it again yesterday . I have an 07.

It happened to me on my 07. It seems to be one of those little issues you just have to deal with. It happens so infrequently that you would be hard pressed to replicate at the dealerships.
