Hey guys and gals. I've had this issue of Car Magazine sitting around my house for a while but I haven't scanned it yet. I'll upload it shortly.

The driver is Darren Turner. As a former co-driver with McRae and Prodrive they set a bunch of lap records in the GTS class. He's a two time Le Mans winner, driver of the year award winner and currently testing cars under contract for Aston. Dude can drive.

The laps were done at Anglesey Circuit in the UK. They didn't race the full track though. The crew eliminated a few open straights and modified it to be a bit more technical.

Anyway, long story short the Evo beats the STI around the track by .5 seconds. HOWEVER, they tested a stock North American spec STI against an FQ360.

As well the Evo also won the two page mini review.

Power: 297hp @ 6000
Torque: 300lb ft @ 4000

0-60: 4.8 Sec
Max: 155 Mph
Weight: 1505 Kg

I wish that the STI was running stage 2 though. Anyway it just goes to show how fast both cars are. Thats it.

What a stupid comparison! So an extra $20000 gets you an EVO that is half a second quicker? The fact that it is even that close shows you that someone finally picked a driver that know how to use the STI...

I would question the results of any Car Magazine, that can't even get the specs of the car right!!!

08 Sti has 305 HP, not 297 HP.

That is not how it is listed in the UK. Their measurement is a little different.


So, the WRX STi, a 35k car, was only .6 seconds slower than the Audi RS6, a 110k car. Not bad

The STi in the UK is listed at 300 ps@rpm which translates to 295 bhp.

The OP listed it as a North American STI, not UK.

I think the magazine is using the UK spec STi though. The tests were done on a track in the UK and the numbers they listed match up with the UK specs. Could be a typo in the magazine maybe?

Oh, and the FQ360 is not available in the US, which makes me think they are using models of the cars available only in the UK.

IMHO though, this makes the STi look even better. Look at the cars in the video that were in the 105-106 second range, I think it is impressive that the STi tested in the range of some of those cars. The FQ360 is not even a stock Evo, so it is not a practical comparison.
