That's pretty impressive for the STI and those are definitely the UK specs.

Just goes to show a lot of it comes down to the driver, and when you take a driver who isn't highly skilled and put him in a car that has a bunch of doo-hickeys helping out, he will drive alot better in the doo-hickey'd car than the other one.

In this case, a highly skilled driver could drive both cars almost as well the other - further proving that the 08 is a great car, you just have to know what you're doing with it.

for those that missed it... the Stig posted a faster laptime in the '08 sti vs the evo X (regular 300HP version). it was close. but the sti was faster

Right, despite Jeremy Clarkson lambasting the STi the entire time he drove it.

any talk about the STI in the magazine? Wonder how better tires and a stage 1 tune would do for the time.

I want to see more races of stock evo vs stock sti. It seems to just be more bias than any thing, I want like x number of drives drive both cars and see what car had the fastest average or something like that.

ah yes, almost forgot about that - one of the few places where the STI did better, but goes to show what we are saying.

EXACTLY, but then you get the "this mod will help, or with this mod the other car would ___" - but agreed, the OEM tires aren't anywhere near the grip performance of the Yokohamas or whatever comes on the Evo these days.

Dear Car and Driver,

Take a driving lesson or two from these people the next time you plan to review the STI.

In the mean time, suck it.

Sincerely,

Oh, and the FQ360 is not available in the US, which makes me think they are using models of the cars available only in the UK.

IMHO though, this makes the STi look even better. Look at the cars in the video that were in the 105-106 second range, I think it is impressive that the STi tested in the range of some of those cars. The FQ360 is not even a stock Evo, so it is not a practical comparison.
I should make a clarification. I made an assumption that the car was a North American spec vehicle because they have the engine displacement rated at 2457cc’s.

I thought Subaru only released two STI motors, a 2.0L (1998cc) for Japan and the 2.5L (2457cc) for the rest of the world.

Please correct me if I’m wrong.

For the majority of the tests these car magazines conduct... does the same driver test each car? That would seem to be the most accurate way to make true comparisons.
