Default Seibon carbon fiber part weights

Got tired of waiting so I called Seibon and got some of the weights of their GR parts. An ad for their dry carbon (!!) parts spurred me into action, so I have those here too. All weights are approximate to the nearest pound I would guess...

OEM-style Hood: 22 lbs (stock is ~45 lbs)
front fenders: 2 lbs each
front door: 13 lbs
rear door: 11 lbs
hatch: 14 lbs (stock is ~25 lbs)

Ok, here's the crazy part- Seibon now makes a dry carbon hood and hatch for the '08/09:

hood: 12.3 lbs
hatch: 8 lbs (!)

List price for both the hood and hatch are $2400 each There's pictures of the hood and hatch on their sema car in their sema gallery and it is the sex, but ouch.

Frank

ouch is right! but those carbon savings for the hood and trunk is pretty good. now, it's a question of fitment, esp the trunk.

I'm assuming the glass would add a good bit of weight to the hatch though. Good mods for weight reduction. I can't believe how damn heavy our stock hood is.

Replacing the doors with CF would be a major safety hazard, wouldn't it?

many people do it in conjunction with a cage that includes door bars, but I guess some just don't care, like if they're building a show car. I think the factory side-impact bars are welded to the door skin, so you wouldn't be able to move them over.

Sweet, they're making both front and rear doors! Not that I would put a bunch of cf parts on a street car, but a carboned-out 08+ would be sick.

i'm about to sound WAY too old, but how do these parts affect collision absorption/safety, if any? I DD my GR on the 405 and 101 everyday so safety is a real concern.

weel, it would seem that if you do the doors you loose the side impact crash beams, so that would be bad. I remember an urban legend that if you got into a frontal impact a carbon fiber hood is so stiff that it breaks free, comes through the front window, and decapitates you!

you're probably pretty safe to do the fenders and rear hatch.

I wouldn't do any carbon, especially doors on a street driven car. A hood or hatch may be OK though, but I am sure you would no longer be driving a 5 star collision vehicle.

They'll handle an impact at the speeds you see then (d'oh!) .

If I had a dollar for every day that the stupid 405 prevents me from hitting full boost even once during my 20-mile commute...

Also yes you sound OLD! Like, SO OLD, maybe even 30!
