For example: If your lights are on setting 1, and they seem a bit high, change the setting to 3 or 4, and they should be much better/lower.

as for adjusting them... that's why i adjusted them to be right when the dial is on 2. that gives you options to adjust your beams up and down depending on the load in the car, if you're out on the open road, and if you sitting behind someone in traffic.

For adjusting the lights, I didn't do the 25' method because I didn't want to wait until night time AND find a place that I'll have a 25' minimum distance from a wall AND be level at the same time. What I did was I knew I was pretty satisfied with the level of the light output when the switch was set at 0 from the factory. That level really is too low for 0. The cutoff would just clear a standard sedan's rear bumper. With that in mind, I flipped on my lights and put pieces of tape on my garage door where the cutoff was. I then adjusted the lights to that level (a tad bit higher, actually) at the 3 setting. This is a suggestion to anyone else if you're satisfied with what you see at 0 or any other number but just want the light to be that level at a different position. It certainly saves the trouble of finding the "perfect" location to do this.

IWSTI Addict since: Aug 2005 | just got done with my headlight adjustment. Took me all of 15 minutes to do. Man they were way low from the factory. I also used the 25" at 25 feet method and put the beams just below the tape line on the garage door on the #2 setting. Now I have some "Wiggle room" |

IWSTI Addict since: May 2009 | I do the look test. Find a nice level dark road. Adjust my lights, then walk out in front of the car a good distance, and sort of squat down a bit to simulate the average small car with 5'4" driver. And adjust the lights to a couple inches below getting blinded. This way bumps in the road will let drivers know that I don't have my brights on but still sit low enough so they don't get blinded. Just gotta make sure to check both lanes to make sure your not blinding people your following too. Found this to be the best way to get the max height that won't blind people. Oh speaking of which.. I replaced my stock low beams from H11s to H9s. Now with these and being adjusted properly I can say this: These lights are now adequately bright for night time driving. Also, they are now as bright as they should have been from the factory. Best $34 I spent on the car so far. I am going to order some HIRs now for the high beams. They are adequte for sub 55mph rural roads. But gonna need some HIRs or something for 70mph runs for me to feel animal friendlier. Last edited by HellTriX; 05-23-2009 at 12:45 AM.. Reason: Btw. This was done to my brand new 2009 WRX hatchback. |

IWSTI Addict since: Oct 2008 | Old thread but I wanted to say thanks, I've been putting this off because the adjustment isn't immediately obvious and I haven't been able to find a proper service manual online for the 08. The stock level is just too low when the car isn't loaded down-- it's almost dangerous! Just adjusted the level 2 setting to the same as level 0 set from the factory, hopefully it'll work out properly (did it at mid-day so I haven't been able to check yet, at worst it'll still be better than it was). I understand why Subaru did it, too many idiots who only care about blasting the road with light so they can see (mostly driving Ford Excursions, I've noticed ), but I'm intelligent and considerate enough not to blind other drivers.Regarding the air intake snorkel, I was careful enough to get it back into the seat before noticing that caution, but I can see where it would be an issue if you were just quickly getting things back together. It doesn't naturally just fall into place, you kinda have to work it at just the right angle. |
