IWSTI Addict since: Jul 2008 | Hey guys, I've been seriously considering the SPT catback exhaust for the STI, but after reading that it may weigh as much as 23lbs MORE than the stock one (Gleep measured the stock at 42 and the weight on the SPT for shipping is 65), I find myself scratching my head on it. Additionally, I'm not a fan of the exhaust design on our cars. I think P&L has a far superior design going out to two mufflers, but it's way too loud for my tastes. Having a giant canister with exhaust gases hitting it perpendicularly is a poor design and in my opinion favors aesthetics more than performance. From what I've read in other threads, the SPT exhaust for the 5 door WRX will fit our cars. While I think the 5 door's exhaust looks good, I'd like to keep the original look of the car just with straight pipes. I started looking at the one for the sedan, which I think is a decent design (though the Y is a little funky), but I really question whether you could make it fit. Eyeballing it, it seems like the outlets fall in about the same place, but I wonder if the exhaust hangers would fit. I'd be surprised if Subaru made the undercarraiges so disparate that the sedan's hanger placement was completely different, but who knows. Also, if you look at the images of the SPT exhausts, it looks like they all use the same mid pipe: What I can't figure out though is that everything I've read says that the WRX exhaust is 2.5" and only goes to 3" at the very end while the STI exhaust is either 2.5" or 2.75" at the flange and then is 3" the whole way back. It seems stupid that Subaru/SPT would produce two midpipes that are just slightly different than one another. I'm also curious if they're the same length. Could the SPT STI mid pipe mate to the Y pipe of the WRX sedan exhaust and hook up? I know I'm suggesting something preposterous here, but I'm really pedantic about exhausts and really am not happy with the offerings for our cars. |

IWSTI Addict since: Jul 2008 | Actually, looking at this: It looks like the mid pipe mounts backwards on the WRX from the STI. Seems silly to me... Maybe it's not possible after all... |

| Professional STI Driver Feedback Score: 0 reviews | I thought I saw some anecdotal evidence floating around (perhaps from COBB but don't quote me on that) that the center fed canisters flowed better than most of the other bendy/pipy designs available; perhaps not as good as the p&l or AMR types with straight flow (and high dB) that you've referred to, but aren't the SPT and other similar systems still supposed to be more than adequate for our cars? Heck, people are using the stock GR can for over 400HP on rotated setups. |

IWSTI Addict since: Sep 2007 | I noticed this when those photos first came out. on the last picture they flipped the mid pipe around the other way to throw us off. think about it, that extreme bend is there to go around the rear diff. no other reason to have it like that. my vote is for the same midpipe across all platforms just shipped with different rear sections. makes more sense from a manufacturing standpoint as well.
