Default What to do when a cop stops your modded STi?

So i live in California and i have a stage 2 Sti. My exhaust has one race cat (which doesn't do much), its not that loud but you can definatly hear it. I haven't been pulled over by a cop yet, but i hear about people getting pulled over for aftermarket sounding exhuast and giving "fix it" tickets.

I was thinking you could say that your car came with the factory SPT power package (which includes SPT intake and exhaust). What do you guys think? Got any better Ideas to get out of a ticket?

Good info, but for after you get the ticket, this is for when you get pulled over:

lol..I've been pulled over for exhaust before when I had my apexi n1. It was MUCH quiter than my invidia n1 race back that im currently running. But the invidias tip is smaller, which i think has saved me many times over!!! I've been pulled over about 4 times with the invidia turbo-back non catted. Once on the freeway also, so the cop DEFINATLY herd it. I have one of those (GOD DAM!) Exhaust's..lol. I just recently thought of the best excuse, "officer i just discovered an exhaust leak at my downpipe". Most likeley the officer wont even know what a downpipe is. But will probly let you off the hook. Then just say you have a factory cat back..IMO.

Keep your mouth shut. I posted this a while back, but when I got pulled over by a NJ state trooper I was just getting ready to tell him "It's stock!" when he told me that there was a problem with the registration. Once we got that cleared he let me go on my way. C/N: Don't volunteer info!

Probably the best advice. There is no sense in arguing. Cop probably won't understand any excuse you give him anyways. As if a cop would know or care who or what SPT is.

+1

Keep your mouth shut. If you decide to lie to him and he knows more than you think, then you've just dug yourself a hole.

Some officers will be happy to keep giving you more rope to hang yourself with...so yes. Just be respectful and quiet.

this is my article on how to behave during a stop. if you follow it he will likely stop looking further into equipment violations. read it and follow it. i live it and it works.

how to manage a traffic stop (the right way)

as far as asserting your 4th ammendment rights to prevent a continued search for eq's beyond what he can see in plain view, there may be some discussion of that in my thread. california is a communist gulag so a california attorney may be able to shed more light than a non ca attorney might, but we can always ask tortfeasor, who is a nj attorney (another blossoming gulag).
