Default STI Vs Corvette?

Call me crazy, but with my 05 being totalled out, and me having about 27K to spend on a new car, I have been seriously contemplating buying a used C5 ZO6 Corvette...

I've never driven one, but my previous Subaru went through 4 motors to make 320 at the wheels, and my current 05 STI, before being totalled out, was burning a quart of oil every 500 to 1000 miles, with less than 20K on the odometer, both rear struts made noise and I had to rebuild the rear diff. This was a stage 2 car.

It seems to me like the corvette would be faster and be able to be driven harder without going downhill so fast. And since I will be living in Las Vegas and Los Angeles, AWD is no longer a requirement...

But I fear that it just won't hold a candle to how much fun the STI feels to drive. And I wonder if the all around performance is really comparable. I am not buying anything before I test drive it, but I was wondering if anyone here has some comments?

The corvette is a nice car. Like the STI the interior quality is not on par with cars costing as much as it does, but it makes up for it by having a huge engine. The few vettes I have been in generally, no matter what numbers they put up, feel like muscle cars to me. Not that I mind that much, I like muscle cars, but it might not end up feeling as light or as nimble as your STI. My other problem with vettes is that for a car so big they tend to have small interiors and I feel cramped inside one. Contrast this to my STI where, while small, it feels no where near as cramped as the Vette. Since you have some money to burn and don't care about inclement weather, also check out an M3 or 335i as well as the Lotus Elise and Exige. Or if you are willing to spend a little more and get a trully magnificent car, a 911 really is the tits when it comes to DD sports cars.

Because of your badluck with Subaru I will say this:

Corvette + supercharger. End of argument.

c5 ZO6 is pretty sweet. Aside from the utility of the sti, and the fact that you no longer need awd, i think the ZO6 should match up performance wise, and be better up top.

You'll just have to get used to rear wheel drive, not too much acceleration around the twisties unless you like going through curves sideways (which i do not oppose)

good luck

My boss just got an 01' Z06. He loves it. I dorve it and I love my STI much more. Of course, I have a huge dislike for muscle cars that you see on every corner and in every driveway constantly. The STI is pretty different and I rarely see them so...

BTW, the supercharged 'Vette will LOVE the I15 Freeway to and from LA/Vegas

I recommend a V1. Just watch out for the CHP airplanes
