Default Creaking clicking noise.

Ive been noticing for the past few weeks a creaking clicking noise when im backing out of my driveway really slow and start to turn the wheel sounds like its coming from the front left wheel. Dont know where its coming from suspension brakes or what...but it makes the noise when im not even touching the brakes. When im backed out of the drive way and start to go real slow and turn to straighten out it makes the noise again creak creak click click click. Then i cant hear it again till i go real slow and start to turn???????

It only happens in reverse? Weird. Might be a wheel bearing. I'd take the wheel off and check around that area. See if there's something loose or some debris lodged in there.

I hear it every now and then backing out of my driveway while turning. I'm not sure what it is but I've heard it in my friend's STi also.

Since you have an 04, I would check your wheel bearings first. Jack up that corner of the car. With the wheel in the air, grab the upper and lower part of the wheel or put your hands on the tires (at 12oclock and 6oclock). See if you can wiggle it. There should be no play and the wheel should remain vertical | If you can make it wobble like / \ / \, then your wheel bearing is gone.

Could be a bad axle. A bearing will not always wobble when bad but will some times give you a slight grinding noise or both grinding and wobble depending on how bad it is. Mine had a click on acceleration and deceleration sometimes and it turned out to be a bad axle. I don't know about the creak though.

I think there was a TSB out for the STi to re-torque the axle nut... gonna see if I can find it.

I didn't hear the noise in mine until after I did a couple easy launching runs at the 1/4 track... or maybe I'm paranoid lol

Well, i finnaly jacked my car up and checked a few things. Until finnaly i came across my driver front tire. I can lift it up about two inchs of play. its very very easy to pull it up and down. And its very stiff on the other tires. Maybe you guys can check that. I'm taking it to the dealorship to get it checked.
