Thats bull****. If you were paying 300+ a month and having to work for your car, knowing that if you mess it up you have to pay for it yourself and work that much harder it makes you appreciate it more. If you wreck it you let your parents down, yeah that sucks, but there aren't the same reprcussions for you. There are always those few cases of a perfect driver who's parents buy them a car, you even said so yourself you had fun in your beater car. Does that mean tickets or accidents? I never had a beater car because I love cars, I am 23, have had 3 sport cars and 1 SUV and have NEVER had a ticket, and NEVER an accident because I have to pay for it.

Plus the freedom of being able to do whatever whenever is nice. I had a WRX for two years and one day i went out and got an STi, I didn't have to ask my parents if i could, i just did it. They noticed it a few days later and although they didn't agree with me having a fast car at my age, they can't do anything about it I am on my own and independent and that makes me care about my car more than you who has your parents pay for it(im not saying your irresponsible, just don't say you care more because you didn't work for it)

I dont get why it matters who payed for there car or not. Doesn't make you a bigger suby fan. There are people out there whos parents buy them new Ferrari's. It's only an Sti. Some people on this forum are a lot older with a family and rent to take care of. So they get all whiny when they hear that someones parents bought them there car. The thing is, wherever you are in life right now...you put yourself there. Some people are more fortunate than others. Some peoples parents are doing things for their kids that they never had when they were growing up. It's a bad, tasteless question to ask. The fact that we are on this forum is because we are enthusiasts about the car. If you have to be that insecure with yourself to wonder who payed for their car or not...you have a lot more problems than that. PS...i bought my car with a check...if thats what you guys wanted to hear.

I had a beater car that i had fun with didn't mean i have 10 points on my license. I have a clean record except for 1 speeding ticket 4 years ago for going 7 over the speed limit. And if i mess up my STi my parents don't cover it. The car got broken into and i had to cover the deductible. They bought me the car but expect me to take care of any problems that arise there after. My point was that you cant just say because you pay for the car you car for it more. I take care of my car just as much as any of you do. I spend days researching before i attempt to do anything on my car, get it serviced ever 3000 miles. Have never launched the car or raced it against anyone. I just think its kinda ridiculous that everyone assumes that just cause your parents buy you your car, you have no idea what you have.

And how can you say bull**** to me taking care of my car more because my parents bought it. Thats how i see it. You dont know me to judge how i run my life.

no i wouldn't; there are those kids that turn out normal, but chances are that your kid is gonna become a huge d*ck. my parents have all the money in the world, yet they made me get a summer job when i was 12, and except during middle/highschool ive been working full time(including college) ever since(now 25 years old). so i definately don't see the need to spoil your kids since working teaches your kids more about the world than spoiling ever will.

secondly, this thread is getting a little out of hand, people are making too many generalizations. from what i have observed in real life(not on the internet):

There ARE responsible kids out there that don't F around with things their parents give them, but i must say that MANY of the younger crowd on here whose parents did buy them the car have abused them. i talk to alot of people on here outside of the forums(face to face) and most of them have met at least one of the younger "my parents bought my car". I have heard countless stories about the younger crowd breaking things on their STI's that could only result from abuse(im not gonna name names, you guys know who you are).

so in conclusion, we can't be saying that someone does or doesn't care for their car based on what we are reading on these forums. people fib about certain things, or don't admit to crap they have done in their car; There are people who didn't buy their car and don't abuse it, while others have. yes i am biased towards people who don't buy their own things, but im not going to call them out and say that ALL of them are spoiled brats with no responsibility(because i do know some very well behaved spoiled kids).

I pay for my own, infact I paid for every car I ever owned including my first car which was a 87' chevy beretta that I bought for $500. And yes I beleive people learn to appreciate the value of things if they have to bust their a$$ to pay for it.

i think safety of your child is a huge factor too. even if the kid is responsible, that is a lot of power for an inexperienced driver to handle.

Unless you're slamming into me with my 1 1/2 year old son in the back seat, I could care less who paid for your car.

I agree with this 100%. First, I recently got out of school and landed a great job, so I bought myself a STi for a being done with school present (for now at least). I also pay 100% of my bills (have been paying 90% of them since I started college).

Just like everyone in college, I met sh*t load of people. THIS IS A GENERALIZATION, but most of the kid's whose parents bought them everything they wanted ended up F*up's (DUI's, dropping out of school, etc.). For example, 2 of my very close friends grew up with everything they needed/wanted. Both of them wasted thousands of their parent's money then dropped out of school without paying a dime for anything.

But there is also kids with rich parents who don't spoil them. Even though they can afford it, they make their kids pay for the stuff they want. Once again, another generalization, but these kids seem to turn out a lot better.

When I have kids I will raise them like I was raised. Spoil them now and then, but make them work for the majority of their stuff.
