| Senior STI Driver | Hey guys...I'm trying to decide which year STI I should get. I know that the 07's have a vf43, different heads, longer gears, and seems to take a lil better to mods. However, it does seem to have a problem with hesitation stock. It also seems like I've seen WAY more 07 STI problems on this board than 06's... I think I want to go with an 06 simply because there hasn't been many issues with it and I think I'd like the shorter gears (I do everything but drag race and think the shorter gears would make the car feel like it accelerated more intensely) What do you guys think? Change my mind or back me up on decision to get an 06? This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. |

The VF43 turbo is not bigger than the VF39 on the 04'-05'-06' STi. The only difference is that the wastegate is bigger which gives more accurate boost control if you tune it. Longer gears (not all of them, only 2,3,4 I think) are personal choice. I like short gearing since the car feels faster. If you can find a new '06 now, you can get it for cheap! Also, on the '07 the ECU is bit more advanced to the other STi year models which can better adapt on new hardware. But again, this is useless if you tune the car. |

| Junior STI Driver | I've owned both 06 and now 07. The 06 felt quicker and smoother. That's comparing them stock to stock. I liked the shorter gears too. Now with mods and a protune who knows, it could be the other way around. If you plan on light mods and maybe an off the shelf tune: I would get the 06. If you plan on modding and protuning: Then 07. All in all, I'd say the 06 because of the issues with the 07's. I think with the 06 you'll be happy with from the start. Last edited by elcopan; 06-12-2007 at 10:34 AM. |

The longer gears might be better for drag racing and if you mod and tune it, you can get a bit more out of the 07 as far as power. As said above you can get an 06 for cheap if you can find a new one. Either way I am sure you would be happy. |

Both my 06 and 07 were protuned and my 07 is making about 20 more torque and hp than the 06. And the gears make you feel like your not shifting all the time which is nice. Either way you cant go wrong! |

If anything, the swaybar change from 20mm (06) to 19mm (07) would be the larger factor in terms of handling. I'd say go for the 07. I personally love the longer 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gears, and there's nothing like taking a BONE STOCK car, rolling off the showroom floor, and pulling a 12.8 @ 106 | |
